Dear Marina Tenant,

Spring has sprung! And as boaters, we all know what that means...preparing the boat for warm weather fun, getting the kids life-jackets and water toys ready, and refilling the wine cabinet. It also means making sure all your boat's systems are working correctly! Come talk to the professionals at your yacht center if you have any questions or concerns about your boat.

A friendly reminder: Our marina is filling up to capacity, so please be considerate to your dock neighbors in regards to noise. Also, for everyone's safety and enjoyment of the docks, please do not leave items on fingers between boats.

If you have any questions about the marina or suggestions on how we can improve your experience, please call us at (619) 574-0736 or come by the marina office.

Sincerely,

Jim Behun and the Sunroad Resort Marina Staff

Maritime Museum's San Salvador Replica Nearing Launch!

A launching ceremony has been scheduled for a full-scale replica of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo's flagship when he sailed into San Diego Bay nearly 500 years ago.

According to a report delivered Monday to the Port of San Diego Board of Commissioners, the wooden ship will be ready to launch April 19.

Volunteers have been building the $6.2 million, fully operational replica of the San Salvador over the past four years at Spanish Landing Park. Their progress can watched via a webcam operated by UC San Diego.

The 92-foot-long vessel will be moved around midnight April 17 to an area in front of the County Administration Center for public viewing and transported the next night to Broadway Pier, the report says.

Catalina and Hunter move in to Sunroad Marina!

We would like to announce that we now have a new tenant here at Sunroad Marina! Heritage Yacht Sales which is the southern California New Boat Dealer for Catalina and Hunter Sailboats, as well as Mainship power boats, has joined our community of Yacht Brokerages.

Heritage is also the North American dealer for Dutch made Elling, a modern long range cruising yacht which has been an extremely popular yacht in Europe for decades due to her elegant but hardy design as well as her legendary self-righting hull, which also makes her one of the safest LRC yachts in the world. For anybody who would like to view her she is berthed here at Sunroad Marina; just give us a call or come by the office and I will be happy to show her to you.

The Heritage office is headed up by Ray Wilson who with his wife and two cats has returned from a six year cruising adventure aboard their Transpac 49 that took them through Mexico, across the Pacific to French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Tonga, New Zealand, Fiji, Vanuatu, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and finally to Thailand where they finally decided to sell their boat and head home to friends and family; settling down in the San Diego area.

Ray is a long time power and sail boat owner who worked in Yacht Sales up in the Long Beach/San Pedro area before he left. Look for Heritage in the old Sunroad 'Gym' location right next to the Deli.

If you would like to contact Heritage please call: Ray at 760-402-3868

WWII Shipwreck: Haunting Photos of the Battleship Musashi's Remains

This is the bow of the Japanese battleship Musashi. The bow would have featured a large teak chrysanthemum, the Imperial Seal of Japan.

More than 70 years after it sank during World War II, the legendary Japanese battleship Musashi has been discovered off the coast of the Philippines.

Billionaire Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen has been leading an expedition to find the Musashi - one of the biggest battleships ever built - aboard his high-tech 414-foot-long (125 meters) yacht, the M/Y Octopus. The team announced this week that they finally located the shipwreck in the Sibuyan Sea.

Giant 14ft, 800lb stingray becomes the biggest freshwater fish ever caught with a line and rod after TV star reels it in.

A stingray weighing nearly 800lb has become the largest freshwater fish ever caught by rod and line.

The gigantic flat fish, which was 8ft wide and 14ft long, took nearly two hours to reel in. It was caught by American TV nature conservationist Jeff Corwin on the Mae Klong river in Thailand.

It was so big that several men on board a small fishing boat had to take it in turns to help on the rod.

After getting the ray alongside the boat it was pulled into a specially-prepared pen where seven people lifted it out of the water so it could be properly measured.

Specialists measured its width, length and girth to calculate its weight
