Join Our Mailing List

Dear Marina Tenant,

It's the middle of February and it feels like summer. It's been over 80 on the beach, gray whales are making their way down the coast to Mexico and it's a great time to go boating! No snow shoveling for us!

Have a recent photo of you enjoying your boat? Send them our way and we'll include you in our social media posts and maybe even this newsletter!

A friendly reminder: Our marina is filling up to capacity, so please be considerate to your dock neighbors in regards to noise. Also, for everyone's safety and enjoyment of the docks, please do not leave items on fingers between boats.

If you have any questions about the marina or suggestions on how we can improve your experience, please call us at (619) 574-0736 or come by the marina office.

Sincerely,

Jim Behun and the Sunroad Resort Marina Staff

Blackbeard's Booty: Pirate Ship Yields Medical Supplies

Archaeologists are excavating the vessel that served as the flagship of the pirate Blackbeard, and the medical equipment they have recovered from the shipwreck suggests the notorious buccaneer had to toil to keep his crew healthy.

Blackbeard is the most famous pirate who ever lived. His real name was Edward Teach (or possibly Thatch), and his flagship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, was formerly a French slave vessel named La Concorde de Nantesthat Blackbeard captured in November 1717. Blackbeard was able to capture this ship easily because much of its crew was either sick or dead due to disease.

Watch a 27m-high slackline between two sailboats

In his most creative stunt yet, Mich Kemeter does a slackline above the sea - using two sailboats.

These Volvos travel the ocean instead of the road, and Mich Kemeter might not be Jean-Claude Van Damme, but there's no question the video you'll see below shows off a supreme act of balance.

Standing 27 meters above the water, Kemeter attempted to traverse a slackline strung between the masts of two Volvo Ocean 65 race boats, currently racing in the Volvo Ocean Race
