FOID Mental Health Reporting System - Presenter Wanted!

IAFP is looking for a family physician who has a presentation or would be willing to develop a presentation for our membership regarding the Illinois Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Mental Health Reporting System.

The State Academies of Family Medicine are pleased to invite you to attend a FREE webinar on Extended-Release/Long-Acting Opioids: Achieving Safe Use While Improving Patient Care. We have 6 webinars scheduled during the next several months -- one of them should be perfect for your busy schedule.

These 90-minute webinars meet the FDA requirements for ER/LA opioid risk evaluation and mitigation strategies [REMS], and include a wide range of topics relevant to your practice and patients:
  • Appropriate assessment, risk evaluation and use of the agents.
  • Methods to initiate, modify, and discontinue use, including ongoing management strategies.
  • Evidence-based tools for assessing adverse effects, plus patient and caregiver safety tips, including safe storage and disposal.
  • Product specific information on each of the agents in this class.
The webinar includes the latest evidence-based information and practical tools you will put immediately to use, and much more. A post-activity assessment will help you gauge your increase in knowledge and competency.  Upon completion of the assessment and evaluation you will receive 1.5 AAFP Prescribed credits, and we will send you both the faculty slides and additional resources you can use to improve your care of patients.

2014 ICAAP Annual Education Conference
September 19-20, 2014
Hyatt Lisle - Lisle, IL

Registration is now open for the 2014 ICAAP Annual Educational Conference, scheduled for September 19-20 at the Hyatt Lisle in Lisle, IL. The 2014 agenda includes keynote sessions such as Dr. Bradley Stolbach discussing his work in treating children and families who have experienced trauma and Dr. Niranjan Karnik discussing mental health in the general pediatric practice. Additionally, the inaugural H. Garry Gardner Memorial Lecture will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 from 6-8pm. Dr. Michael Hirsh from UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center will present the latest information on prevention of injuries in children. Other topics for breakout sessions include sleep disorders, perinatal depression, newborn screening update, management of type 2 diabetes, and more. ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS FOR THE ICAAP ANNUAL POSTER SESSION
On Saturday, September 20, 2014, ICAAP will hold its annual educational poster session. We are now accepting submissions for abstracts that provide information to attendees on topics relevant and of interest to those in clinical pediatric practice. The poster session application is available on the ICAAP Annual Conference website. Applications are due on August 1, 2014.

E-Cigarette Webinar Recording Now Available on YouTube!

A webinar for healthcare professionals discussing the public health and clinical challenges of e-cigarettes and providing a suggested approach to talking with patients about e-cigarettes. This 50-minute March 2014 webinar was sponsored by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), the American Medical Association (AMA), and the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP), with Commissioner Bechara Choucair of CDPH providing opening remarks and discussing Chicago's e-cigarette ordinance, and Dr. Michael Fiore serving as faculty for the webinar. Online Curriculum: Healthy Fish Choices - Promoting healthy fish consumption for women and children
 
Healthy Fish Choices is a CME course designed to enhance the care you provide to women who are pregnant and breastfeeding, women of child-bearing age, and young children. The course is aimed at pediatricians, family physicians, obstetricians, and nurse midwives.

Healthy Fish Choices, taken on-line, is divided into six short modules to be completed at your own pace allowing you to incorporate what you learn into your clinical practice as you proceed through the exercises.
