Call To Action

Contact your State Representative to vote NO on SB 2187

SB 2187 (called RxP) would allow psychologists to prescribe medication.  This bill has already passed the Senate and will be heard in the House Human Services Committee on Wednesday May 7 at 9:00 a.m.

If the bill passes committee, it will move to the full House.  It's imperative that all representatives know that Illinois family physicians oppose this bill and why it will not help patients.

Please contact your Representative by phone or email TODAY (Tuesday) or tomorrow morning and urge them to vote NO on SB 2187.

Talking Points

1) SB 2187 requires inadequate education. Psychologists do not have the equivalent of education or clinical training required for nurse practitioners or physician assistants,
2) While supporters like to tout the supervisory role of physician, the clinical experience is with just one doctor and nothing requires that physician to be licensed in Illinois. They could be located in another state.
3) The license would be issued by an independent Board not under the Illinois Department Professional Regulations unlike any other profession
4) Allowing psychiatrist to prescribe medications does not improve access, especially in underserved rural areas.
5) Similar legislation has been defeated over 100 times in other states.
