December 2015

What an exciting year in Heritage Greens that finished with a blaze (literally)! All kidding aside, we are so thankful that our newest neighbors are alright and no one was in the home on Nichols that was a complete loss. The community also extended a special cheering ovation to the Littleton Fire Department members at our annual meeting for their amazing work protecting all surrounding properties. It's should give you great piece of mind to know they arrived within only 6 minutes from the first call!

With 2015 coming to a close, we had a terrific celebration with neighbors and shared our accomplishments this year and the vision for 2016 at the annual meeting. I hope you were able to join us! The slides we presented are linked here and on the HG website under HOA Documents, Strategic Plans if you'd like to take a look. The current board members were all voted in for another term and we had a few key changes to our volunteer list. Please join me in thanking Kristen Dimig and Todd Mercier for their outstanding efforts as our News and Web person and head of Architectural Control respectively. Both have decided to move on to other commitments in 2016. We are so fortunate to have two new volunteers step in to their roles effective January 1st.  Ricki Kelly will be serving a dual role as News and Web and a non-voting At Large board member. We are thrilled to have her and she brings a strong skillset to both roles. In addition, John Skrzypek will be our new Head of Architectural Control. John is a tradesman with his own business and will be a fantastic fit to pick up where Todd successfully left off. Please thank both of them when you are able!

Please don't forget to go for one of our Best Holiday Lights awards that will be announced at the annual Suburban Sleigh Ride event on December 22nd. Be sure to join us and purchase you luminaries as well.

Have a safe and joyous Holiday and a Happy New Year!

Suburban Sleigh Ride - December 22nd

Get your jingle on!  Sleigh Ride, Dinner and Drinks!
You are invited to our family tradition for ALL Heritage Greens residents...while supporting the Heritage Green's Gators. New this year...DINNER for your family and the sleigh ride will be courtesy of a horse-drawn carriage!

Why stress about dinner 3 days before Christmas?  We have decided to serve your family dinner this year! We will have a variety of soups to warm your soul, mac and cheese and salad.  Each little "elf" will receive holiday head ware to keep and an opportunity to make reindeer food. To help encourage singing, songbooks and adult beverages will be served. Christmas movies will be shown in the community room after your sleigh ride if you would like to stay and mingle!

The cost is $15 per person. Children under the age of 3 (sitting on a lap) are FREE.  All children under 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Step 1:  Click the link below to pay online with your credit card.  Online payments only, no money taken at the door.

Step 2:  Click here to select a ride time/seat for each member of your family. Each sleigh can accommodate 18 people. Unfortunately, we may not be able to accommodate families who arrive after their ride time. Rides will begin and end at the HG Community Room. Sleigh time reservations without payment will be deleted.

So grab your neighbors, start singing in the shower, dress warmly and share the holiday spirit! Proceeds benefit our swim team, the Heritage Greens Gators! This event sold out very quickly last year. Please purchase now!

This event would not be possible without our neighbor and generous sponsor:

Neighbors and NonProfits: The Denver Rescue Mission
The Denver Rescue Mission wishes to thank the Heritage Greens' families and friends who recently kick started a brand new family "Philanthropic Club". In October, over 100 people attended an informative meeting about the Denver Rescue Mission and learned about a unique approach of giving back to our community that involves both parents and children.

Homeless Facts:
  • Did you know that 53% of the people experiencing homelessness in Denver are families?
  • Over 30% of our homeless population has a job.
  • Most family members experiencing homelessness are under 17 years old.
Recent Club Accomplishments:
  • Thank you for raising over $25,000 for the New Life Program (a 2-year rehabilitation program to alleviate homelessness).
  • Thank you for making this year's Christmas magical by adopting 10 large families in need of Christmas presents.
  • Thank your for accepting the challenge of providing a special Christmas dinner to the Champa House (a caring, nurturing place where single mothers-many of them coming out of abusive situations-can live with their children and receive counseling, further education, and the emotional support they need to find healing and begin providing for their families).
On the horizon:
  • An educational workshop for children on the importance of philanthropy and how they can make a difference now.
  • 2016 Clothing and Food Drive at the Heritage Greens Clubhouse.

Sustainability
christmas_tree_red_gold.jpg REcycling-  Christmas trees - The City of Littleton and South Suburban Parks and Recreation will collect and mulch Christmas trees starting December 26, 2014 through January 12, 2015.  The Littleton collection site is located at Cornerstone Park at the southeast corner of West Belleview Avenue and South Windermere Street. Access to the site is off of Windermere Street just south of Belleview, with the drop site in the parking lot adjacent to the soccer fields. South Suburban will collect trees at its Willow Springs Service Center(WSSC), 7100 South Holly Street in Centennial. Look for the designated enclosure by the front gate. Residents can drop off their tree seven days a week, from sunrise to sunset, in both locations.
All lights, ornaments, nails, and plastic bags must be removed, prior to dropping off trees. This drop off site is for natural Christmas trees only. Do not drop off flocked trees, artificial trees, leaves, branches or other refuse. The trees will be ground into mulch which will be available free to the public at the sites for as long as the supply lasts.

The city's grounds maintenance division also provides free wood mulch throughout the year. The mulch pile is located on the northwest corner of South Prescott Street and West Prentice Avenue. The site is open to the public during day light hours and the mulch supply is replenished regularly. Residents are responsible for loading so bring bags, trash cans and a shovel or pitchfork. For information call 303-795-3863.

DON'TSA common mistake many people make around the holidays is loading their recycling bins with wrapping paper, tissue, ribbons and more. Unfortunately, the shiny, laminated paper is actually not recyclable. Including it in the bin with other paper products can make an entire load unrecyclable.

REpurposing:  Try crafting ideas like the ones below!

REcycling: - add those pine needles that fell down directly into your trash bins for recycling.

Community Room
Effective immediately, all community room rentals for 2016 will be a flat rate of $200.00. The refundable security deposit remains at $300.00.
