June 2015

The pool and tennis season has kicked off without a hitch and the center of the neighborhood is bustling with activity.  We recently renewed a three-year contract with Perfect Pools to continue maintaining our pool and lifeguards after a nearly two-decade relationship! Many of you see Landon and his father Had at the pool on a regular basis. On behalf of the board, I want to extend a tremendous thank you to Kyle Linhardt for his years of service heading up our pool efforts and enabling us to have our vendor cover everything end to end.  He has helped make our facility world class! Moving forward, we will no longer have a head of pool volunteer role, as the board and Gator Parent reps will deal directly with Perfect Pools. All contact information has been updated on the website as well.

On a related topic, it appears that Sunday evenings have become an impromptu family grilling and get together night at the pool area again this year. Bring your burgers and hot dogs and socialize with your neighbors while the kiddos (young and old) play in the pool.

If you have walked around the neighborhood recently you've seen the landscaping explode and all the new beautiful flowers as well. Look for more to come at the three entrances as we continue to upgrade our infrastructure and highlight the beauty of Heritage Greens for years to come!

In just a few weeks, we have the annual 4th of July party and parade. If you're new to the neighborhood or just haven't been in a while, this is arguably the biggest festivity of the year and has something fun for everyone.  We hope you can make it.

Enjoy the official start of summer!

Heritage Greens 4th of July Celebration

Come celebrate July 4th with your friends and neighbors!  There will be parades, food, games, fire trucks, beer and Gatoritas for the adults and treats for the kiddos.  A timeline of events will be sent out prior to the celebration, but plan on bringing your tent, swim suit, sunscreen, and get ready for a fun day!

Covenants Corner - Why Covenants?

Heritage Greens is a Covenant Community.  What does that mean? A covenant is a binding agreement made by two or more persons or parties; a compact; contract.  All homeowners and residents of Heritage Greens agreed to follow our Covenants and Rules and Regulations (available on the HG website under HOA Documents) when they moved in. The ACCU is our Management Company, the organization that monitors and

enforces our covenants. The reason for this process is that Heritage Greens is a premier south suburban neighborhood and the goal of the HG Board and the ACCU is to keep it that way.

If you would like to become more involved, HOA Board meeting are typically held on the first Wednesday of the month.  Because of the 4th of July Holiday, the next HOA Board Meeting will be held on July 8th, 7PM, HG Community Room.  All residents are invited to attend.

Heritage Greens Tennis

This Memorial Day, the sun finally made an appearance to welcome the start of another tennis season with the Heritage Greens Annual Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament.  This year, forty-two HG residents battled in 40 matches for bragging rights as the dominant court couple.   Amongst the group were some familiar tennis faces and many players that were new to the game (some so green they matched the tennis balls - you know who you are!).  Everyone enjoyed the sunny weather, fun tennis matches, yummy food and delicious drinks, but in the end only three couples could be crowned as the 2015 Mixed Doubles Champions.

Sustainability
REDUCE: Are you avoiding using the plastic bags for your grass clippings?  Put them directly in your trash bin or in decomposable bags.

RECYCLE:
Anuual Garage Sale will be Sept. 10 - HG residents only and 11th and 12th  for the public  Save your unwanted items.  Remember:  "One man's junk, is another man's treasure."
If you don't want to man it,  please find a neighbor to do it  with.  It can be a lot of fun.
Details next month.
We see lots of usable items being put out for trash pick up.  Go ahead and put a "free" sign on it.  It is like giving someone permission to go ahead and take it before it ends up in the dump!

RECYCLE:
With summer finally here, a lot of us are tackling big cleaning projects--like the garage or basement.  You may come across some items that should not be thrown away in the regular trash collection--hazardous materials such as used motor oil, oil filters, gasoline, insecticides, pesticides, weed killer (Round Up), household cleaners, or other materials that we don't want contaminating our landfills or water supplies.  Arapahoe County provides curbside pickup for these materials, but it does take a little planning.   They have contracted with a company called Curbside that will provide you with a special bag and instructions for you to put these materials in, and they will pick it up on a scheduled date.  The number to call is  1-800-449-7587.  The cost is only $20.00 and much of the material is recycled.  For more information about this service, go to the website  http://www.arapahoegov.com/DocumentCenter/View/355.  Please be environmentally friendly and utilize this service for proper disposal of these items.  Our future generations will be thankful!

REMINDER:  At the pool and tennis courts - please use the yellow-topped bins to recycle!!!!!!  All those tennis ball cans and water bottles should go in the yellow -topped bins.  On swim team days - please put your plastic bottles, silverware and plastics in the yellow-topped binds.
Just make it a habit!

RE-EDUCATE:
What is Terracycle?
Have you ever wondered what happens to all the plastic and trash we get rid of? Well that trash goes into landfills and sometimes the ocean. Many animals have died due to plastic consumption, but with terracycling you can help reduce that. Terracycling is recycling all plastic that cannot be recycled. With terracycling you can also get paid for shipping your terracycle to the companies that reuse it. One of the bad things about terracycle is that there are multiple companies that collect and they collect different items, for example you would have to separate candy wrappers from chip bags. The main categories of terracycle are writing utensils, candy wrappers, chip bags, juice pouches, plastic bags and snack wrappers. The other disadvantage is that you have to ship the package of terracycle goods. But those two disadvantages are nothing compared to the environment terracycle helps.  For more information on Terracycling, check out https://www.terracycle.com/en-US/

The first step is to make sure you are registered on the Heritage Greens website and that all your information is accurate. From the home page, click on Community Room, and check the calendar for the date and time you wish to reserve. Follow the link to the Community Room page and click on Request Form.  Once you complete and submit this form the information comes to Shari Lamb. It is date and time stamped so if multiple requests come in, the earliest one will be processed. There can be a delay in receiving some requests, so if you do not get a confirmation email within three days, please send a note to hgcommunityroom@gmail.com.  This confirmation email will include instructions on where to drop off the completed paperwork and checks. The rental agreement must be printed from the Community Room page link, filled out and signed.

Current fees are $50 for up to 25 people and $100 for up to 64 people. The security deposit is $300. Checks can be made out to HG HOA.

A few days before your event, contact Shari to arrange for key pick up.  During the summer when the pool is open, you must also contact Landon at Perfect Pools

South Suburban Parks and Recreation Alerts Public to Graffiti's Financial Impact

Graffiti is writing or drawings scribbled, scratched or sprayed illicitly on a wall or other surface in a public place. South Suburban Park and Recreation District is experiencing an uptick in graffiti throughout the District and wants to alert residents about the problem and the financial impact of graffiti removal.

In 2007, the District began tracking graffiti within its boundaries. Since then, the District has incurred 1,269 incidents for a cleanup cost of $301,145. Since Jan. 1, there have been 43 incidents District-wide. Time and money spent removing graffiti could have been spent on upkeep and enhancements to parks, trails, open space and facilities.  Graffiti cleanup not only costs the District, but ultimately impacts those the District serves. South Suburban has installed security cameras in frequently-hit locations to help curb the problem; however, no area in the District is immune to this activity.

South Suburban wants the public's help in reducing graffiti throughout the District.  Remind your teenagers that graffiti is illegal, and those who are caught will be issued a citation and a bill for the cleanup costs.  Subsequent offences could lead to higher fines, community service or possibly more severe consequences, such as felony convictions. To report graffiti, please call Senior Park Ranger Dan Scheuerman at 303.435.8225, or 303.435.8227 afterhours; or South Suburban at 303.798.5131.
