April 2015

Spring fever is officially here and as you dust off those sandals, I thought I'd share a fun fact. Do you know the name of the Frenchman who invented the sandal? Phillipe Phloppe.....OK, I have the right to one corny joke during my tenure.

Summer in the Greens is fast approaching and you'll get great details in this newsletter about all the exciting activities. Tennis leagues kickoff at the end of this month, Gator swim team registration is now open, the first neighborhood party is on May 16th, the pool opens mid-May (maintenance is underway and opening day will be announced soon), and the Gator Gallop (family fun run) is on Memorial Day. Whew!

At this time of year we see lots of new neighbors moving in and existing neighbors are looking for help with odd jobs as well. I wanted to remind everyone of the great resources offered on our Heritage Greens website. If you're new and have not yet met the welcome committee, please drop Sarah Browning at sarahgshepherd@yahoo.com a note and she will get you everything you need. If you have teens or college age kids trying to make money, make sure they put their information on the Find a Sitter and Teen Services boards. If you're like me and forget to check the website regularly on your own, you can also sign up to the "message boards" to receive email updates and post topics you need help with from other neighbors. Last, we have the "resident directory", "Board and Volunteers" and  "Social Events" links to easily contact or socialize with your neighbors. If you have other great ideas you think we need, please contact Kristen Dimig (News and Web) at HGNewsWeb@gmail.com and let her know.

As the garage doors stay open in the evening and everyone is out playing, let's all keep a close eye out for one another as well. Call if you need anything at all.

Covenant Corner - Enlightenment of Heritage Greens

(en lit' N ment) noun, to shine brightly

We have been involved in an active program to address our covenant on Pole Lamps for the past several months. This came about as some were removed by past or current home owners and the neighborhood was basically getting darker. In March letters went out to 43 homes who lacked these or who's were non functioning. To date, 15 have corrected this or submitted an ACC form for a variance that the HG Board acted on at the April 1st monthly HOA meeting at our clubhouse. This variance states that if you do not have a pole lamp, but you feel you have adequate outside lighting, you may apply for a variance to the pole lamp covenant. To qualify, your home must emit at least 1.55 LUX (a measurement of light intensity) from the curb at your home. The board does have a light meter and will provide you with the measurement if asked. If you elect to submit a variance request you should:

        A) Submit on an ACC form, which is available on the HG website
        B) Mention that your home has "X" amount of exterior lights
        C) The number of lights on a photoelectric cell
        D) Your LUX measurement from the curb
        E) A photo of your home with the lights circled

Currently, we have 28 homes (4.7%) of our 578 homes remaining with this issue.
The target date for compliance is May 1, 2015. If your home has not responded, we request that you let us know your intentions so we can chart our direction as it applies to this issue for your home. We appreciate your attention to this and if you have any questions, you should contact Mark Brooks at ACCU, or John Nielsen.

Heritage Greens Tennis

League tennis has started and will be in full swing beginning April 27th
The courts are once again getting busy, so please don't forget to read the rules regarding the tennis courts and reservation policies.  PLEASE make sure to cancel any reservations that have been made and are not going to be used.

The small trash cans that are on the courts do need to be emptied into the larger ones outside the fence.  If everyone could help with that it would be appreciated.  We all need to help in keeping our courts looking great.

Looking forward to a great tennis season and fun on the courts. Please email me with any questions regarding the reservation system or league tennis.

Moms, Pops & Tots

The Easter Bunny found his way to our celebration on April 4th! Thank you to all the families who attended. A special thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make the Easter party a success; Cindy Rayfield, Maren Singer,  Maddie Dorman, Madelynn Malcolm, Mackenize McElhiney, Grace Nickless, Mackenzie Skirka, Mya Thompson, Brooke Distefano and Tiffany Hengel. We also want to extend a huge thank you to Eileen's Colossal Cookies for the donation of the delicious, and beautiful, Easter cookies.

Our next 3 and under playdates are scheduled! They are Thursday April 9th from 9-11 at the home of Leslie Suh and Tuesday May 5th from 9:30-11:30 at the home of Sarah McKenna. Please watch your email for location details. These events aim to give parents and caregivers of our youngest residents a chance to get to know each other in a small group setting. They will be held monthly throughout the year.

Please plan to attend our last day of school celebration scheduled for May 22nd.  Your child does not have to attend school to participate in this event. It is a fun way to celebrate the start of summer. Time and location details to follow!

Attention parents of children entering kindergarten! Our kindergarten team is hard at work planning events for this summer that will help your child get to know others in the neighborhood that are also starting school this fall. These events will be a fun way to celebrate this milestone! Watch here for an announcement of dates and times for these events.

If you are the parent, friend or neighbor of a teenager who likes to babysit, or is looking for a summer nanny job, please let us know. We are hoping to compile a list of babysitters that can be shared with the Moms, Pops, and Tots community.

If you are new the neighborhood and would like to be included in Moms, Pops & Tots, please send us an email. We look forward to seeing you soon.
