January 2015

I hope you had a wonderful time with friends and family over the holidays. The lights on all of the homes were amazing throughout the neighborhood and congratulations to our holiday lighting contest winners.  First place:  Lindardt Family, Runner-Up: Hutchins Family, Best Tree(s): Holder Family and Best Facebook Photo: Hildahl Family. Special thanks also go out to Stafie Parker, Holly Malcolm and many others for the 2nd annual sleigh ride event this year, which was a huge success!

We have an exciting plan for 2015 and will be posting all the details along with survey results by February on the website. The themes continue around infrastructure enhancements, expanding our sense of community, and further strengthening the reserves. The updated list of volunteers is on the web if you need to know who to contact for any issues at all.  As always, all residents are invited and encouraged to attend HOA Board Meetings in the Community Room the first Wednesday of the month at 7PM.

One final administrative note: There have been many reports of unused vehicles being left parked on the streets causing challenges for the plows, through traffic and visibility of those on the sidewalks. Please put vehicles on the driveway or in the garage and help keep the streets clear for the benefit of all year-round. If they are not for primary use, the rule is 48 hours maximum on the street. Our property managers at ACCU do the patrolling and notification/fines to enforce the covenants, not the volunteers.

I wish everyone a prosperous, healthy and happy New Year!

HOA President

Moms, Pops & Tots

Moms, Pops, & Tots finished up 2014 with some of our favorite events, our Breakfast with Santa and Cookie Exchange.  Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the December festivities!

If your child will be starting Kindergarten in the fall, please remember that Lois Lenski has some upcoming dates for you to be aware of.  If you will be sending your child to another school, now is a great time to give that school a call to make sure you are aware of their registration deadlines!

If you have a child who will be entering kindergarten for the 2015-2016 school year and you would like to learn more about Lois Lenski and the  kindergarten program, please plan on attending one of our new parent orientation and open house days.  You may attend at 9:30 AM or 2:00 PM on any of the following dates:
  • January 14
  • January 21
You may find additional information here.  Please let your friends and neighbors know.  You may also call the school office and schedule a one-on-one tour with the principal so that you can see students engaged in learning.

Finally, as we kick-off 2015, Moms, Pops, & Tots would like to say a huge thank you to Alison Rank and Ann O'Conner for their past year of service!  They have planned, organized, shopped, and cleaned, all in the name of throwing great parties for the parents and children of Heritage Greens.  We would also like to welcome Margie Bradley as she hops on board for the events in 2015!

Though we don't have any specific events on the calendar for 2015 just yet, be on the lookout for at-home playdates (ages 3 and under) to kick off in February.

Stay Safe on Winter Roads...Watch out for Black Ice
Please be extremely careful this winter coming and going from the neighborhood; often there is thick ice on the street, especially in the exit lanes.  Every year it seems we have a horrible crash because cars slide into oncoming traffic.
Did you ever notice the large tilted barrels out at our Links and Colorado Blvd exits? They are for resident use and are filled with a special mixture of sand/gravel/ice melt. Grab a scooper and generously spread it out in the street to help us mitigate our problem. Thanks to those who continue to spread for the benefit of all.  Please give it a try at least once during bad weather.

 Book the HG Community Room

As we get into the time of year when the Community Room calendar starts to fill up, here are some tips for making the reservation process easy and painless.

The first step is to make sure you are registered on the Heritage Greens website and that all your information is accurate. From the home page, click on Reservations, choose CommunityRoom, and check the calendar for the date and time you wish to reserve. Follow the link to the Community Room page and click on Request Form.  Once you complete and submit this form the information comes to Shari Lamb. It is date and time stamped so if multiple requests come in, the earliest one will be processed. There can be a delay in receiving some requests, so if you do not get a confirmation email within three days, please send a note to hgcommunityroom@gmail.com.
This confirmation email will include instructions on where to drop off the completed paperwork

and checks. The rental agreement must be printed from the Community Room page link, filled out and signed.

Current fees are $50 for up to 25 people and $100 for up to 64 people. The security deposit is $300. Checks can be made out to HG HOA.

A few days before your event, contact Shari to arrange for key pick up.  During the summer when the pool is open, you must also contact Kyle Linhardt
kyle.linhardt@me.com regarding lifeguard coverage and fees.
Next month we will publish information about requests for the popular graduation
weekends in May.

The Architectural Control Committee Needs Volunteers

2015 is going to be busy for Heritage Greens! We pride ourselves on managing from within or simply put, the VOLUNTEERS who step forward to assist with various projects. An example is our Architectural Control Committee. If you would like to help, please contact David Kirschner at ACCU

Heritage Greens Gators Swim Team

Thank you for participating in Holiday traditions that support the Gators Swim Team.  The Gators would like to thank each and every neighbor that purchased luminaries, Butter Braids and Duffy Rolls. The fundraiser was a huge success which was so evident on the drive through the hood on Christmas Eve. We are truly grateful for all that you do throughout the year to help support your Gators.

This event would not be possible without the help of our sponsors and volunteers. We would like to extend a very special thank you to:

  • Suzette Loving and Molly Brandsma who organized the entire event and spent hours entering, separating and distributing all the orders.
  • Anne Dresser Kocur, with Fuller/Sotheby's International Realty. For the past several years Anne has donated the long reach lighters for orders of four dozen or more.
  • Jeff and Jen Gruidel with Freight Logistics for providing free freight services for our candles from Southern California.
  • Our great volunteers who helped assemble and distribute the orders for pick up.  With out the man hours, this tradition would not be possible.

The Sleigh Ride continued in its second year with much success! Thanks to the hard work of Stafie Parker and our sponsor Holly Malcolm with Hume & Co. The Menchie's fire truck drove through the neighborhood carrying families bundled up and enjoying the neighborhood Christmas lights. We then invited families into the HG Clubhouse for cookies, drinks, and kids' Christmas activities.  Santa's Two Helpers (Dan McGowan and Jason Everett) even helped keep the adults happy and warm on the ride!  With the introduction of the silent auction, some families have already purchased swim lessons!  Thank you Coach Rachel, Coach Jack and Grant for donating your time next summer to make this possible.  Thank you also to Swim Labs for their generous donation of swim lessons.

This neighborhood is so fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers to continue these festive traditions.  We are truly lucky to have so much support from the families who live here and support the swim team----Thank you.

Go Gators!

Tennis Leagues for Next Season

tennis Captains
A mandatory captain's meeting will be held on January 22nd. All Team Captains or Team Representatives must attend.

Players
If you are interested in playing in a tennis league this summer, be sure to read the tennis league rules which are available here or on the website.

There are certain procedures that need to be followed especially in the following circumstances:
  • Anyone wanting to play on an HG team that has never played on one before must send in a request.
  • Anyone moving up or down a level and wanting to be on a new team must send in a request.
  • Anyone wanting to play on a team that is above their rating level must send in a request even if they were on that team in the past.
When making requests, please list the specific leagues you would like to be considered for. Just saying "any 3.0 team" is not enough information. There are multiple leagues throughout the year playing at different days and times. USTA.com and coloradotennis.com will have all the league days and times listed. Here is information for 2014: Thank you-

Security and Safety Update

Rick Johnson is a fellow neighbor and has over 40 years of investigative and security experience.  He has volunteered on the HOA Board for seven years and is here to support the neighborhood with issues regarding safety and security. He can be reached at rick@denverpi.com.

Rick's tip for the New Year:

Be sure you know how to properly store 9-volt batteries.  Improper storage with medals can quickly lead to devastating house fires.  For more information, please watch this two minute video
