September 2014

September may be the best month of the year. The kids are back in school, the cool nights are great for sleeping, the colors become most spectacular, the ski sales begin, and the holidays are fast approaching. Better yet, it's like we all get a bonus when our water and electricity bills go down by 70%!

We officially end another great pool season this Sunday (details below). Thanks to so many great volunteers for making this an integral part of our community and the standard for others to follow. The Luau party will be a great way to end the season (see sign up below). The Board will be meeting with the Pool committee this month to brainstorm and further enhance the rules and experience of homeowners for the 2015 season. If you have feedback or suggestions to add to that discussion, please email them to Kyle Linhardt to bring to our meeting.

As we prepare for 2015, the Board is reviewing our 2014 spending and finalizing the budget for next year. We are also updating the rules and regulations with our legal team to ensure our documents reflect learnings over the past 30 years and keep up with state law changes.

I receive a large amount of emails with questions from homeowners about renovations, issues with neighboring homes, community room reservations, etc. While I am happy to facilitate those requests, I just want to make sure everyone knows about our property management company ACCU. They are listed on the top left of our website under "property management". David Kirschner (303.339.9708) is our rep and does an excellent job of helping with any issue and connecting you with the right people.

Here's to one more month without large bags of candy in our homes!

ACC Corner - Covenant Corner

Here's a SIGN of the times......per the Heritage Greens Association Covenants, Bylaws and Amendments, page 9, section N:

No signs (except one "For Rent" or "For Sale" advertising sign per parcel, of not more than five square feet) billboards, unsightly objects, or nuisances shall be erected, placed or permitted to remain on the premises, nor shall the premises be used in any way or for any purpose which may endanger the health or unreasonably disturb the Owner of any Lot or any resident thereof.

We've had a summer of improvements in HG and some contractors will not even not ask residents for permission to place a sign. The response from the resident should be, "No signs per our covenants."

With elections coming up, per HG Rules and Regulations, section 5:

Political signs may be displayed no earlier than 45 days before the day of an Election and no later than 7 days after the day of the Election. An Owner may display one Political Sign per political office or ballot issue in the Election.

School Signs, ie: Warrior Football, Debate, Chess Club, Swim Team are encouraged, in season!

You can find the covenants under the HOA Documents section on the website. If you have forgotten your password or the link above doesn't open, email the webmaster at HGNewsWeb@gmail.com.

Recycling - Towels, Leaves and Prescription Drugs

With the pool closing this month the Sustainability Committee will take all unclaimed towels to the Denver Rescue Mission. On the last day of the pool being open, if you want to drop off any unwanted towels, we will add them to those we are taking.

Also, if the leaves start falling, put them directly in your trash bin or recyclable bags -it helps the decomposition process at the landfill.

Prescription and non-prescription drugs can be dropped off anonymously year-round at the Sheriff's office, 13101 E. Bronco Pkwy in Centennial, Monday-Friday, 7 am - 6 pm. All drugs must be in a clear, plastic zip-lock bag. They will be screened for compliance and then you can place them in the drop box. Please dispose of non-wanted drugs safely and keep them out of the landfill and water supplies!

2014 Fairfax Court Reunion

Have you ever wondered what ever happened to that family down the street? You were so close until they moved away and then you gradually lost track of each other.

The Fairfax Ct. cul-de-sac had some great block parties in the mid 1980's but as families moved away, the tradition died out. Betsy and Fred Lightner, the sole remaining original homeowners on Fairfax CT, decided a reunion was in order. They successfully located all the original Fairfax CT homeowners for a reunion held over the August 15th weekend. Families came from as far away as Panama and six different states to attend the 2-day event, with 13 of the 15 original homeowners represented.

Not only did Betsy and Fred invite all the original owners, they also contacted the current Fairfax CT homeowners to attend the first evening of the gathering. Some of the current residents opened their homes so original homeowners could tour their previous homes.

What happened in the 25+ years since these families last socialized? Lee Mossel is now the author of the Cortland Scott crime thriller series; Harry Massey completed a 49-day bicycle trip across the United States; and Blair Rasmussen is developing Boys and Girls Clubs in the state of Washington. Don Woody, unbeknownst to his neighbors, had recording contracts in the mid 1950's for Decca and ARCO record labels. His music has now been rediscovered by European rockabilly enthusiasts and he has been persuaded to perform at rockabilly revival shows throughout Europe and in Las Vegas.

All participants spoke of the camaraderie and friendships that were so unique to that particular street. No one has experienced anything like it since. Betsy and Fred commented, "The participation for our reunion was amazing. Everybody had a great time and it was very special to renew the friendships that began some 27 years ago. Heritage Greens is a fantastic neighborhood."

Next Fairfax CT reunion party? This group already has plans to hear Don Woody perform at the 2016 Rockabilly Festival in Las Vegas.

Gators Swim Team

Hard to believe that with the shorter days, summer is coming to an end. Sad for many of us, but with fall activities underway most of us are too busy to notice.

With the upcoming close of the pool come changes in the Heritage Greens Swim Team leadership. With a heartfelt thank you, we say goodbye to the amazing leadership of Holly Malcolm as parent representative. Under Holly's leadership this summer was one of the most successful swim seasons ever. Thank you Holly!

Welcome Kristen! Kristen Dimig has agreed to be the new parent rep with me for this year. Please say thank you and welcome Kristen to the new role for next summer. She will be an amazing asset to the team and we are lucky to have her.

Get back to the craziness of fall and remember to watch for future Newsletters for the information on Butter braids and Luminaries.   Soon the falling leaves will change to snow and it is never too early to start your Holiday planning now.
