August 2014

We're nearing the end of another great summer in the neighborhood but there are still many activities to come. The swimming pool will remain open until September 14.  We will also have our annual end of the summer Hawaiian Luau on September 6. Details on that coming soon. Additionally the last tennis social is this Friday and we'll have a men's and women's tennis tournament during Labor Day weekend! More details below.

I think it's important to extend a special thank you to the many volunteers who continue to elevate our community. Joel Terwilliger and John Greene did a wonderful job leading the first ever Kids Tennis Clinics on Sunday nights. Heidi Elliott championed a committee that put on fantastic tennis socials and tournaments. Holly Malcolm finished her two years leading the Gator swim team and somehow further elevated an already outstanding neighborhood-sponsored team. Nancy Seaval also made an immediate impact as assistant this year and will lead the team next summer. Lastly, Teri Hendrix, Jan McElhiney and Anne Dresser Kocur organized fantastic recycling and garage sale events to help convert someone's trash into others' treasures!

I could go on and on but will finish by reminding you to please thank a volunteer (look them up) when you see changes or programs in our neighborhood that make it great. Even better, send me an email to join the HOA team in 2015 as a volunteer. You will make an impact and fulfill your tour of duty.

A quick ACC-related note. Please walk your home's exterior and plan updates on trimming, weeding, fencing, paint, or other repairs that may be unsightly to your neighbors before we head into winter. Be sure to submit to the ACC for approval. We've had an increased number of complaints lately about homes in need of some TLC and would like to avoid sending letters wherever possible. Thanks so much for your help!

HG Garage Sale a Success!!

Thank you to all the people who participated in the neighborhood garage sale. By doing it together on one weekend, we pull in more traffic and keep the neighborhood safer, as we are prepared for the influx of cars.

Another thank you to the 20+ homes that donated to Lupus. By donating, you not only help others, but you reduce the amount added to the landfill.

Just an FYI - on the last day that the pool is open, you may drop off unwanted towels which will be picked up along with all the left-over towels from the pool and donated to Denver Rescue Mission.  There will be a bin, just add your towels.

Thank you to Anne Dresser Kocur for sponsoring the garage sale again this year!

Gators Swim Team - Gator Greatness Unleashed!

The theme for this summer's swim season was "Unleash Your Gator Greatness". The "Gator Greatness" has been unleashed this 2014 season with many success stories throughout the summer. HG pool records were broken, the Gators cleaned up at finals, we had several "personal best" swims, most of our pre-teamers not only swam across the pool for the first time but actually competed in a meet, and most importantly the Gators won the Rocky Mountain Swim League Sportsmanship Award. This award was won not only by the Gators but also by the Heritage Greens Community. We can't thank the HG neighbors enough for supporting our swim team throughout this 2014 season.

Prelims took place the week of July 7-10. It was a grueling but successful week for all age groups. 90 of our Gators competed in Prelims earning a total of 1376.5 points. We had 179 improved times over the course of the week. Congratulations to all of our prelim swimmers!

First place trophies in the 6&Under Girls, 7/8 Girls, 9/10 Boys, and 15-18 Girls divisions were brought home from the 2014 RMSL Finals on July 12. Congratulations to all of our RMSL Finalists! This is a huge accomplishment and we are proud of you.

We hosted our annual Gator Awards Night after finals. This was a night full of memories, gratitude, accomplishments, celebration, and fun. We recognized our swimmers by handing out our team trophies, years on the team medals, MVP, MIP, and Gator Greatness Awards.

Our "Sydney Award for Gator Greatness" is our most precious award. This award is presented every year in memory of Sydney Schmeling who left us too soon after fighting a courageous battle with brain cancer. The Gator Greatness award is not for the fastest swimmer with record breaking times, but for a hardworking and determined teammate who shows up every day to practice with a smile on their face and a positive attitude. Gator Greatness qualities:

  • A love for the Gator swim team
  • Dedication and hard work
  • Pride in effort and in team
  • A passion to improve skills
  • Amazing sportsmanship
  • Respect for coaches
  • Encouragement and support for teammates!

Website Feature: Resident Directory

There are so many ways to reach out to your neighbors by using the website's resident directory. You can look people up by a last name, first name or address (just use the number part of the address). Remember that either adult may be user 1 or user 2. Once you have located a profile you can get phone numbers, emails and often children's names and birth dates. All of this information is protected and accessible by residents only. The information is inputted by the homeowner and can be hidden if they choose.

Click here to search the resident directory.
Click here to update your profile or change settings.

So if you have a new neighbor who has recently moved in, look them up and say hello!

Solicitors

One way to keep Heritage Greens safe is to keep solicitors out of our neighborhood. Solicitation is against the Heritage Greens covenants. The best way to be sure we do not get solicitations is to NEVER hire anyone who comes to your door, even if they offer a great deal. If you do hire them, you are encouraging solicitation.

We heard about a great idea from another neighborhood: put a little sign on your front door that you don't accept solicitations. Neighbors swear it works, and if they still ring your doorbell just point to the sign. We've created a PDF with a few versions for you to print out at home. Try it and let us know what happens.

Download the sign here.

Tennis

League tennis is in full "swing." Please be sure to close the door to the bathrooms and the gate when the last people leave after a match.

Please go online and book your court prior to going to play. Reservations take precedence. Also, review the tennis courts rules and  tennis court reservation rules.

Please clean up when you are finished playing or socializing. Please help empty the small trash cans into the the bigger ones on the outside of the court.

Keys can be obtained from Marty or Diane. First one is free, after that they are $5 each.
