May 2014

May is finally here and we have a tremendous amount of activities for all to choose from:

  • The Gators swim team kicks off next week
  • The pool opens on the 17th
  • The first neighborhood social party is that evening
  • An adult tennis tournament on the 25th
  • Gator Gallop on Memorial day, and
  • A summer juniors tennis camp that starts in June.

Whew! Thanks so much to all our volunteers for making this possible!! You'll find specifics below in the newsletter.

You may have also heard about the proposed expansion plans going on at Comcast on our NorthWest neighborhood border. We are so fortunate to have a very active group of homeowners that have formed a sub-committee to ensure the best interests of Heritage Greens are taken into account regarding noise and aesthetics among other items. Please contact Jeff Brown and/or Karen Jones via the directory for more information.

Next up, the Heritage Greens shopping center cosmetic issues. Please let us know if you'd like to lead a sub-committee to help influence renovations.

Have a great May and enjoy the last few weeks before they let the kiddos loose.

GO GATORS!

We Want You! Volunteer in HG!

Volunteers needed to help out in the neighborhood. Volunteers truly do provide the heartbeat to Heritage Greens!

Currently, we have over 30 neighbors helping with various duties. It certainly does take a village to have such a wonderful neighborhood. Please look at the following and consider getting involved to help out. If not you, than who? If no one steps up, we will place these light jobs out for bid resulting in a significant cost. Please contact Blake Liberty for additional information. 303-221-6108

1) Light trash duty at our Tennis Court Area (perfect for our regular tennis players) - we need roller trash cans placed out Sunday night and returned Monday afternoon.

2) Light bulb replacement in the common area around the clubhouse (perfect for anyone who can screw in a light bulb).

3) Clubhouse maintenance supervisor (no experience required). We need a volunteer to meet with various venders and repair technicians when maintenance and repairs are needed.

HG Moms, Pops and Tots Group

Please join us for a MPT Happy Hour play date on South Elm Court on Friday, May 25, at 4 pm! Have the kiddos bring their bike, trike, scooter, or transport of their choice to enjoy a "drive in" movie on the big screen. We will provide popcorn, ice cream, food and drinks for the kids.  Please bring an adult appetizer and drink of your choice to share with the group. See you there!

Keeping Our Dogs Safe

As a follow up to the email that was sent out earlier this week, we wanted to add some comments we received from our community.

* Please remember to keep your dog on a leash at all times in the neighborhood.

* Twenty years ago a dog was actually killed by a car on Mineral Circle so it's not just Holly or Colorado that are dangerous.

If you see a dog running loose, here are some things you can do.

1. If you feel comfortable approaching the dog, do so with a leash in your hand (I have one in my glove box) or just open your car door if you dare. Dogs love to jump in. Don't chase a dog as they will usually run away from someone they don't know.

2. Look at the tag for information and start calling or ringing the doorbell.

3. If they don't have a tag, post information about the found dog on our website message board or email HGNewsWeb@gmail.com.

4. Ask your neighbors and neighbor children if they know the dog. Other dog walkers often know all the neighborhood dogs.

5. Take the dog to the vet at Holly and County Line to scan for a microchip.

6. Post signs about the dog for residents to see.

Website Feature: Message Board

We have a great message board on the website. The categories are:
  • Lost dogs (and found dogs)
  • Is this yours? (post found items)
  • Moms, pops and tots
  • News from the city of Centennial
  • Safety concerns
  • South Suburban events
If you want to see other topics, just start a new one or let us know at HGNewsWeb@gmail.com.

So check it out right now. Post something you want to share with the neighborhood! Don't forget to subscribe to the topics that interest you. Click My Subscriptions at the top.

Supporting Our Schools: Arapahoe School Band

The Arapahoe High School Band program includes Concert, Symphonic and Wind Ensemble classical bands, jazz bands, one of the top-ranked marching bands in Colorado, a pep band that supports every basketball game and rally, a color guard that is #1 in Colorado and nationally ranked, and the popular winter percussion performance and competitive group. The bands perform locally and nationally. They involve hundreds of kids and costs parents and students many thousands of dollars yearly to support.

We are hosting a fund raiser for the music program with a silent auction and a concert night on May 17. We invite local bands to play from 6 to 11 pm at the Varsity Inn Restaurant. Please join us!
