March 2014

In an effort to better acquaint you with your neighborhood HOA volunteers, we've added a short bio section in the newsletter. Each month you'll get to know the various faces and roles to contact if you need anything and if you'd like to become more involved. We're starting with the Board for March.

Be on the lookout for the first neighborhood sponsored party invitation of the year this week with some teasers for the future. Let's see if we can set record attendance in 2014. From the previews it sounds like there will be many diverse themes that appeal to all in 2014. Try to make at least one if you can this year!

Also this month, the community area will soon return to the sounds of laughter, clanking solo cups, and occasional expletives. That's right, tennis leagues are fast approaching! Look for more details inside.

Finally, we can all start trimming that winter layer with the infamous Gator Gallop in May so dust off those shoes and strollers.

Have a great spring break!

2014 Heritage Greens Executive Board, left to right:
Wade Wilson, Treasurer; Lucas Wilson, Secretary; Jeff Rector, President;
Matt Mercer, Vice President; Blake Liberty, At Large/Maintenance

Jeff Rector - President - HGPres@gmail.com

Born and raised in Colorado, Jeff enjoys the many year-round activities the state has to offer such as skiing, triathlons, trail running, tennis, and fly fishing. He attended CSU for his undergrad and DU for his EMBA. "I met my wife Val one evening while she was with Arthur Andersen and asked for her number. She said she had to move to Australia the next day (talk about rejection!) Turns out she was serious and we finally got a date six months later and the rest is history. No doubt, I married up!" The Rectors spent five years in Seattle where their son Keaton (11) was born before returning "home" and having their daughter Carsen (6) soon after. Jeff spent the first 20 years of his career leading global sales and marketing and doing business line management. After a bit of a sabbatical, he now loves serving as a financial adviser to individuals and organizations with Edward Jones Investments.

Jeff and his family moved to Heritage Greens in 2009 after targeting the blue ribbon schools in the area and being blown away by the community. "I decided to join the board in 2012 during a walk with my wife when she stopped me and said 'if you're going to complain about something, get involved and help change it.' Of course, (inside) I knew she was right. The reality is that the HOA has changed me and I've made great new friends and truly learned so much about my neighbors and fellow volunteers. Everyone should give their time at least one year if you can."

Matt Mercer - Vice President - HGVicePres@gmail.com

Matt works for Depuy-Synthes Spine, a company of Johnson and Johnson, as a consultant to ortho & neuro spine surgeons. Born & raised in Indianapolis, IN, he relocated to Denver nine years ago after a few years working in Chicago. Matt is a people person. He truly enjoys getting to know others. He loves to be up in the mountains in the winter months snowboarding (après included). In the summer, he fills up his spare time mountain biking, hiking & camping.

Matt and his wife, Marcy, moved into their house on South Elm Court on New Year's Day 2012. They have two young daughters: Jillian (4) & Emerson (2) that currently attend Lawton-Taylor Academy. Both of the girls enjoy playing outdoors - on their cul-de-sac, at the pool or at the park. Jillian is currently taking ski lessons but much prefers reading, iPad apps or Disney movies. Emmy is a bit of a tomboy. She enjoys eating, being dirty and trucks.

Marcy works full-time as a Production Supervisor at the Integer Group, a marketing agency in Lakewood, on the Kellogg's and Procter & Gamble brands. She is passionate about crafting and decorating. She also enjoys all of the mountain activities Colorado has to offer. She is currently training for her 4th Triathlon.

The Mercer family is starting their third year as Heritage Greens residents and absolutely love the neighborhood community. As a family, you can find them poolside during the summer, at social events throughout the year, or simply with a beer in hand on their court while the kids run circles around them. They feel this community is unmatched for raising their young family.

Matt initially got involved with the Heritage Greens board by volunteering to be Social Co-Chair for the 2013 year. His motivation was to meet neighbors and really get a good feel for the residents of HG. This experience was the catalyst for taking on his new role as Vice President. As an active board member, Matt's main motivations are to keep Heritage Greens as the amazing neighborhood that brought all of us here. He intends to work closely with fellow neighbors and board members to make decisions that are in the best interest of the majority and align with the Heritage Greens covenants. He'd also like to rally other neighbors to volunteer. Matt feels very passionate about maintaining and elevating the Heritage Green's neighborhood for generations to come.

Wade Wilson - Treasurer - HGTreasurer@gmail.com

Wade and his family moved into Heritage Greens in August, 2012 from Hollister, CA. They have four kids: Noah (15), Olivia (12), Ty (7) and Rori (7), who keep them very busy with school activities, lacrosse, ballet, scouts, gymnastics, dance and piano lessons. "So far we love it here and look forward to being here for several years."

Wade works for Milgard Windows and Doors as a Finance Manager, and has been with the company for eight years. They have moved twice with Milgard, once from Oregon to California and then from California to Colorado. After three states in 10 years, they are looking forward to settling down in Colorado. Wade's wife Amanda is just starting a practice as a transition life coach where she will be able to use everything she learned during their adventures to help others as they go through similar experiences.

Wade joined the board in 2013 as a way of getting involved in the neighborhood. "It forces him out of my comfort zone which is usually a good thing. The board has been a great experience and I encourage all of our neighborhood to participate as much as you can."

Lucas Wilson - Secretary - HGSecretary2@gmail.com

Lucas Wilson is a Colorado native and currently works at The TriZetto Group in Lone Tree. He and his family moved into HG two years ago this April. Lucas' wife, Mindy, is a special education teacher at Heritage High School and they are blessed with two children. A daughter, Logan is a second grader at Lenski and Landon, their 5-year-old son will be a Kindergartener in August. Together they enjoy their kids in their many activities, the Colorado mountains, cheering on the CSU Rams, and spending time with great neighbors and friends.

"During the 2013 calendar year I had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people in HG as Social Co-Chair with Matt Mercer.  I am excited to continue to be involved  this year as HOA Secretary. I am on the board because I value a strong sense of community and am invested in contributing in the maintenance and ongoing improvement of HG so we continue to be one of the most desirable neighborhoods in the metro area."

Blake Liberty - At Large/Maintenance - HGatlarge2@gmail.com

Blake and Diane are originally from Texas and California respectively. They moved to Colorado 20 years ago and have lived in Heritage Greens for 17 years. The Libertys picked this neighborhood after driving through with their realtor and watching all the kids riding their bikes and playing outside. "It just felt like home and the place we wanted to raise our kids," says Blake. When they first moved in, Blake and Diane volunteered to organize tennis mix-doubles holiday tournaments. They remember this to be a great time and a wonderful springboard to meeting neighbors. They have two children: Jayden, a freshman at Arapahoe High School and Joe a 6th grader at Powell Middle School. Jayden plays high school and club volleyball and enjoys playing the guitar, while Joe loves to play basketball, tennis and chess.

Blake has transitioned from a 25 year career with The American Funds/Capital Group Companies as an Institutional Vice President in Sales and Marketing to something he is very passionate about. His non-traditional job today involves charity work with the Denver Rescue Mission (DRM), focusing on donor fundraising and presentation coaching. Blake is excited to work with DRM because he can help make a difference in the lives of homeless families in Colorado and throughout the world.

Blake's "At Large" position on the HG Board keeps him busy working on projects throughout the neighborhood. One of his top priorities is keeping up with our clubhouse maintenance needs and managing many of our vendor relationships within Heritage Greens. Blake's hope this year is to better streamline and document our volunteer roles to insure we have proper communication among each other, providing a smooth transition from year to year.

"I'm proud to live in Heritage Greens and wanted to insure we continue to improve our neighborhood. It truly does take a village and that's evident when you understand that our overall volunteer base consists of over 30 individuals/families that step up each year to help with our various neighborhood programs. Please consider volunteering at some point. We can tailor a small or large role for you to get involved," says Blake.

GATOR PRE-TEAM:

The Gator Pre-team has been a huge success for the past three years and we look forward to bringing it back this year once again. We often have people ask, "How do I decide if the pre-team or the swim team is the right fit for my child?"  Both our competitive team and Pre-team are intended for kids that have had some swimming lessons and are comfortable in the water. The Gator Pre-team provides an opportunity for kids who are not quite ready for swim competition to develop their swimming skills and participate in the fun of the neighborhood swim team. The goal of the program is to prepare kids to move up to the competition team by the following season or when they are ready.  The Pre-team swimmers will enjoy all of the fun of being a Gator, but will participate in customized practices and not be expected to compete in meets. Practices will be offered each weekday, but Pre-team members may opt to attend practice fewer than 5 days per week. We will host a mini swim meet just for the Pre-team and once we have the date set we will get it out to you. If you have questions or ideas, please contact Nancy or Holly.

GATOR GEAR:

Swimsuits and other gear will be available on Tuesday, April 8 and Wednesday, April 9 at our Heritage Greens Community Clubhouse from 4-7 p.m.  The swimsuits will be the same design as last year.  The boys will still have two style options: either jammers (long) or a racer (like a Speedo).  We'll be offering the great backpacks, swim caps, sweat shirts, beach towels and the really cool green plaid pajama pants. Most of these items can be customized with your child's name or initials. If you are unable to attend one of these evenings, please contact Shelley Thompson at bobandshelley@comcast.net for ordering information.

Tennis

The warm weather is almost here, and with that comes busy tennis courts! Make sure to go online to check to see what is available and book your court prior to heading to to the courts. Reservations do take precedence.

Also, please review  the tennis courts rules and  tennis court reservation rules. Keep in mind, the courts are there for TENNIS PLAY ONLY, and please no wheeled vehicles on the courts as they leave marks that cannot be cleaned.

As league begins, there will be a general outline of when the courts will be in use for league on the reservation website. It is a good idea to always check all the reservations, as sometimes matches are rescheduled and the courts become available. Times and days also change periodically through the summer.

Lastly, please clean up when you are finished playing, eating, whatever. Please help empty the small trash cans into the the bigger ones on the outside of the court. There is no magic elf that comes and empties the trash, so everyone needs to help keep the wonderful courts and seating area we have looking great.

Keys can be obtained from Marty Smith or Diane and Blake Liberty.  First one is free, after that they are $5 each.

Thank you -
