February 2014

How can you not love February? Another Monday off work for many and romance in the air as the neighborhood men run into each other last minute at King Soopers buying cards and flowers to avoid a week on the couch. Speaking of romance...who doesn't love their HOA? After all, we've been working hard and are off to a great start.

First off, our new Community Ambassador Role has been filled by Jane Estes-Schmeling. Jane will be focused on a push to increase exposure and rankings for HG with notable publications, organizations, schools and charities in the area. View Jane as the linkage point to what's going on inside the neighborhood with influential groups and individuals outside of the neighborhood. If you have connections in these areas please do reach out to Jane to help accelerate the efforts.

Many of you may also be pleased to hear we have volunteers such as Marlene Holmes working diligently with the City of Centennial, SEMSWA, the Metro District and independent contractors to address our chronic ice buildups in various sections of the neighborhood. It takes time, but we are building our case to have the necessary infrastructure repairs made for long-term resolutions versus short-term fixes. Stay tuned.

The new Life on the Links magazine hit our mailboxes in February and we want to be sure you know that the content was not HOA driven. While we love that publishers are coming to our neighborhood to exclusively advertise, it's important to note that the articles and sponsor funds are not affiliated with the HOA. That said, we are talking with them and trying to influence future content to be objective and relevant in the months to come. You'll see more specifics from Heidi Elliott later in this newsletter as well.

Finally, to be proactive and drive awareness, the board agreed it was important to mention that we have successfully litigated two long-standing cases of architectural violations. While these are very rare as most residents follow our covenants, we are glad to have theses cases finished and know that they reinforce our resolve to keep HG beautiful. Unfortunately, the homeowners incurred significant expenses as a result of having to replace non-compliant materials of artificial turf and non-approved roofing materials.

PLEASE follow the procedures outlined in nearly every newsletter and on our website when making changes to the exterior of your home or property. Contact Cheryl Witt (property manager) with any questions by clicking on the ACCU link on the left side of our website.

See you in Aisle 6 on the 14th!

Community Room Reservations for Graduation Weekend

The Community Room is a great space for graduation parties. As in the past, we will conduct a lottery for use of the room over this busy weekend, May 22-25. If you are interested in hosting a party, please submit your name, email, and first and second choices of date/time to Paula Powers (hgcommunityroom@gmail.com or 720.984.9793) by Sunday, March 9. If necessary, names will be drawn on Monday, March 10, for any times that are in conflict, and you will be contacted then. If you have questions on this please contact Paula.
Note from the Editor Regarding Life on the Links

You probably received a copy of Life on the Links in the mail sometime last week. This monthly magazine is produced by N2 Publishing, a private company. As it states in the disclaimer on page 3, the publication "is not affiliated with or contracted by the Heritage Greens HOA. The articles and advertisements ... are not authorized or endorsed by the Association." Life on the Links is completely separate from our neighborhood and from this email newsletter. The Heritage Greens News that you are reading now is the only publication of our HOA.

They call themselves a social magazine which makes sense. They have big glossy articles featuring families, kids and pets of our residents. These are fun to read and help us to get to know our neighbors better. If you are interested in having your family featured please contact them. As Jeff mentioned we hope to work more closely with the publication in the future.

You will also notice many advertisers in the publication. Unfortunately these advertisers are not supporting Heritage Greens, they are supporting N2 Publishing. Only by supporting this newsletter are advertisers actually supporting our neighborhood, and providing funding for such things as our pool and tennis facility, common area landscaping and social events. Please take a moment to notice the companies that advertise here in our Heritage Greens Newsletter and support them if you can. They are supporting us.

Gator Swim Team News

Planning for the 2014 Gator Swim Team is well under way. The Gators will be reaching out to Gator Parents in the next few months looking for Committee Heads and Volunteers so be thinking about your volunteer specialties.

For the new families in our neighborhood we would like to extend a special Gator Welcome and invite anyone interested in joining the swim team to contact us or visit our team website at heritagegreens.rmsl.org for additional information.

Registration will be opening online April 1 . There will be details and instructions in the March Newsletter and on the team website.

Our Gator coaching staff is in place and you can learn more about our new and returning coaches on the team website.  We are working with our coaching staff to develop a set of expectations that we believe will build on the success of the past and take our Gator team to a new level. Our coaching team is committed to planning workouts, implementing strategies to improve our children's swimming abilities, and helping every swimmer achieve their swimming goals while making the Gator Swim Team the best part of their summer!

Our Gator Pre-Team has been a great success with our young swimmers and their families and we will be offering it again this year. The pre-team allows an opportunity for kids who are not quite ready for swim competition to develop their swimming skills and participate in the fun of the neighborhood swim team. The goal of the program is to prepare kids to move up to the competition team within the season if they are ready or the following season. The pre-team swimmers will enjoy all of the fun of being a Gator, but will participate in customized practices and will not be expected to compete in meets. More information on the pre-team can be found on the Gator website heritagegreens.rmsl.org .

We know many of you are already planning your summer activities.  After school swim practice will begin May 19. Morning practices will begin Tuesday May 27. We will offer afternoon practices for those swimmers that are not in Littleton Public Schools.

We traditionally start our season with a Fun Meet, in which just our Gators participate. The Fun Meet this year will be on Saturday May 24. One purpose of our annual Fun Meet is to get the swimmers, families and volunteers familiar with how a meet is run without the added stress of competing against another team for the first time.  Our first meet will be a tri-meet on Saturday May 31. Visit the Gator website heritagegreens.rmsl.org to see a more detailed version of the practice schedule, meet schedule, prelims, finals and social events. We have a couple of social events and activities that have not been finalized but we will update you on those events once we have them confirmed.

Sustainability

Centennial will get around to sweeping the streets sometime in the future - in the meantime, you could do your part by sweeping up all the pine needles that have been blown down into the gutters.  Put them directly in your trash can, as they will decompose more quickly that way and it will allow the melting snow to get to the culverts instead of clogging up the water ways and refreezing.
Yard Sign Guidelines

The city of Centennial has recently distributed information regarding temporary yard signs. You can find the guidelines and application on our website under the HOA Documents tab and the City of Centennial folder.

Remember that we also have specific rules for yard signs in our covenants. One For Rent/For Sale per lot, maximum size of 5 sq feet.  Political signs can be placed 45 days prior to the election, and must be removed 7 days after the election.  1 political sign per political office or ballot issue, max of 6 sq feet.

A Few Reminders: Barrels and Trash

Have you ever noticed the barrels of salt and scooper at the entrances to our neighborhood? Did you you know those are for you? Feel free to sprinkle some on the roads at the entrances anytime you think they need it.

We have also gotten some complaints about trashcans being brought out too early. Please try to only put out your trash on Monday morning.

Thank you!!
