January 2014

Happy New Year!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family. Perhaps you even took a ride through the neighborhood on the Menchie's truck to see all the lights and luminaries (thanks to Holly and Stafie!) Now its time to lose that 5 lbs. of overindulgence, reclaim your homes, and dust off the exercise equipment (for at least a week).

We are thrilled to report that our HOA is stronger than ever! It was a great end-of-year meeting, and for the first time in recent memory, we had more volunteers than open positions. Of course, we found roles for all who wanted to participate and our community should see a great 2014. We have an outstanding cash reserve and homeowners dues were held flat once again for 2014 and remain one of the best deals in Denver for such an amazing neighborhood and amenities.

There will be more details to come but I wanted to share a few highlights to look forward to this year: a 50 and over party in response to popular demand, another exceptional season of tennis/swimming/volleyball, major landscaping enhancements and a supercharged holiday lighting display at the entrances and common areas, great community fundraising events, improved access and amenities at your community room, and new community ambassador role focused on getting HG featured in prominent publications as one of Denver's most influential and desirable neighborhoods.

Please continue to support and spread the word about our Architectural Control Committee to new neighbors that may be getting familiar with the process or if you see something that doesn't look right. The process is clearly outlined on the "Architectural Compliance" tab on the left side of our Heritage Greens website. Your volunteers work hard to maintain the values of our homes and no one likes to have to notify a neighbor of violations, fines, and major financial implications to performing unapproved work. Anything on the outside of your home should be submitted. We can't see everything with 578 homes so let's all work together. Unfortunately, we have two active litigations that should finally be resolved this year so please know that it's important. Thank you so much for your support!

As I mentioned at the beginning of last year, both myself and the other HOA volunteers are here to serve you. Please email me at HGPres@gmail.com or call my cell at 303-570-8291 if you need assistance or have questions. Have a happy, fulfilling, and prosperous New Year!

Thank You, Heritage Greens, for Supporting your Gator Swim Team

As I walked through the neighborhood on Christmas Eve I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and joy. The sight of luminaries and holiday lights lighting up the neighborhood, the sound of joyful carolers on the back of a pick-up truck singing Christmas songs while driving through the streets, and even a glimpse of Santa with his reindeer and elf brought a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. This is just another reminder that Heritage Greens is an incredibly unique and very special neighborhood. A neighborhood that pulls together through the good times and the bad times and supports their fellow neighbors in every way. What a true blessing to live in Heritage Greens.

The Gators would like to thank each and every neighbor that purchased luminaries and Butter Braids to help support their swim team. It was a huge success as we sold approximately 870 dozen luminaries and 250 Butter Braids. We are truly grateful and appreciative of all you do throughout the year to help support your Gators.

This event would not be possible without the help of our sponsors and volunteers. We would like to extend a very special thank you to:

  • Anne Dresser Kocur, with Fuller/Sotheby's International Realty. For the past several years Anne has donated the long reach lighters for orders of four dozen or more.
  • Jeff and Jen Gruidel with Freight Logistics providing free freight services for our candles from Southern California.
  • Our great volunteers who helped assemble and distribute: Joe Arthur, Molly Brandsma, Sue Carothers, Allie and Scott DaHarb, Heidi David, Anne Dresser Kocur, Stafie Everett, Jen Gruidel, Paige Jones, Janice and Doug Knipsel, May Lee & Emily Koke, Amy Kurtz, Jan and Mackenzie McElhiney, Meredith McKinnon, Nancy Seavall, Jeff Smith, Shelley, Mya & Ian Thompson, Kris Trauernicht.

Thank you for keeping our neighborhood holiday tradition alive for the past 18 years.

This year we also introduced the Suburban Sleigh Ride on the Menchie's fire truck. The fire truck drove through the neighborhood with families singing carols and enjoying the neighborhood Christmas lights. We then invited families into the HG Clubhouse for cookies, drinks, kids' activities and even a movie. Thank you to all the 43 families that participated. We were able to raise a nice amount of money that will go towards the Gator Swim Team. A big thank you to Stafie and Jason Everett and Menchie's for organizing this festive event.

Sincerely,

Holly Malcolm (303) 808-8682, hollymalcolm@comcast.nett, Gators Parent Rep

A Few Reminders: Barrels and Trash

Have you ever noticed the barrels of salt and scooper at the entrances to our neighborhood? Did you you know those are for you? Feel free to sprinkle some on the roads at the entrances anytime you think they need it.

We have also gotten some complaints about trashcans being brought out too early. Please try to only put out your trash on Monday morning.

Thank you!!
