League Tennis Players

Please read through the new rules and procedures for league tennis at this link and listed below. This concerns anyone that is already playing league tennis in the neighborhood and also anyone that would like to play on a HG team. I would encourage all current league and potential league players to read these procedures carefully.

Heritage Greens League Tennis Rules

Goes into effect for the 2014 Season

Captains and Teams

  • Captains may request team numbers starting December 1st. Team number requests must include a completed roster with minimum roster requirement.
  • All captains must be residents and attend captain meetings or send a delegate.
  • If a new team requests to play at Heritage Greens there are two ways that the home spot will be granted.
    • Seniority will apply (the team that had the spot last year will get the spot again)
    • Rotation will apply if all teams affected agree to rotation and work out their own schedule.
    • Current teams that are already affected will rotate within level.
  • All new Heritage Greens teams must have a minimum of 60% residents on initial and final rosters, even if there is not a wait list for that league.
  • All USTA/CTA rules apply.

Players

  • Rostered residents from the previous year automatically get a spot on the same team the following year.
  • Residents who are not currently on a team must submit their name and requested leagues to the league coordinator by dates listed in the timeline via email only. Captains will not maintain team wait lists. Any resident who misses the deadline will not be guaranteed a spot.
  • League coordinator will alert captains of residents who have requested to play by January 5/April 5.
  • Captains must take residents on their teams until the wait list is satisfied or the minimum roster requirement is met (as determined by the USTA and CTA), or the team reaches the cap (12 for five court leagues, 8 for three court leagues). Captains may choose to have more players than the cap. Captains may also choose to have less than the cap as long as the resident wait list is fulfilled.
  • Priority is given to players in this order:
    1. Residents playing in level who have submitted their request by the deadline.
    2. Residents requesting to play up or nonresidents (captain's discretion). Captains are not required to take a player who is not playing at level.
  • If all residents have been added from the in-level wait list, captains may include nonresidents. Nonresidents are not guaranteed a spot the following year.
  • Any residents who do not get on a Heritage Greens team may stay on the wait list for that year and be added later at the captain's discretion.
  • League coordinator manages all the wait lists per level and league for that year. The wait lists are cleared and started over each year.
  • Coordinator will do her best to provide assistance to any individual or team that does not get a space at Heritage Greens.
  • Non-residents may pay a league administrative fee.

From the Social Guys 2013

From Matt Mercer & Lucas Wilson

(& their beautiful, supportive wives):

Wow, it was a great social year. Thanks for everyone that volunteered and participated to make the many social events a success this year.

We started the social year off with the Annual Casino Night. A great group of neighborhood folks gathered to socialize over craps, blackjack, cocktails & appetizers. Did you know the capacity of the clubhouse is 65? While we did not exceed this capacity, we did have all of the gambling tables filled.

4th of July brought wonderful summer weather for a morning parade and all-day BBQ pool party. This day could not be pulled off without all of the neighborhood volunteers, our gator swim coaches & our pool staff. Did you know?

  • There is possibility of more gold medals for our HG community as we now have a team of synchronized swimmers
  • Annually, $300 worth of coins covers the bottom of the pool for the enjoyment of diving kids
  • The lifeguards or swim coaches win the relays year over year.

Mid-summer, a bunch of neighbors got on-board the Banjo Billy's Bus Tour and ventured outside the neighborhood for a history tour of Denver - complete with a bouncing open air bus, quirky tour guide and beverages in hand. Did you know that Cheesman Park used to be a cemetery? When there is a light dusting of snow, you can see the rectangular shapes of old burial plots throughout the park.

On the Bayou: HG Boil was the Annual HG Luau in disguise in September. Shrimp, Sausage, Potatoes were tossed on the tables in true bayou fashion. And boy was it tasty & a fun adult evening. Did you know that no lifeguards means no after-dark cannonballs? Well, maybe there was some rule breakers at the Boil.

Last official social event of the year was the family-friendly HG Oktoberfest. The first year of this event proved that it's a mainstay. We had over 50 families participate in hayrides, various activities for the kiddos and a bonfire to keep everyone warm in the crisp fall air. Did you know that 83 candy apples, 180 donuts, 175 brats, 811 ounces of root beer and 3968 ounces of beer were consumed during this event? The kids got their sugar fill & the adults enjoyed their beverages.

We'd like to give a few shout-outs to people who have gone above & beyond helping the Social Guys during the 2013 season:

"Volunteer Family of the Year". The Gruidel Family - Jen volunteered for every social event often working longer than her scheduled shift along with volunteering her husband, Jeff - even if he preferred to "just be social". Thank you, Jen & Jeff.

"Last Minute Go-To Clan".  A shout out to the Elm Ct. and Elm Ct. adjacent.  You know who you are and we often called upon you to secure the last minute party essentials (such things as beer, toasters, propane, ice, fire pits and volunteering when the sign-up list was desolate). We couldn't have done it without you!

"Social Communication Master" Heidi Elliott helped us set-up the "prepay" link option for events along with consulting on our ads for the newsletter and email blast communications. She even sent out an email blast for us from her family vacation. Thank you, Heidi.

As we pass the torch along to our successors, we have a few tidbits of advice:

1) You can't please everyone but we feel like we pleased most.

(Complaints can always be texted directly to the HOA president at 867-5309)

2) Most of our great ideas originated at the Sunset ...we are happy to share if you are buyin'.

3) [this entry has been censored]

4) Don't let it rain on the 4th of July.

5) Be out by 10:00 pm sharp.

6) The only thing useful in "The Social Binder" is the Margarita recipe.

7) Last but not least, we leave you with:

Did you know? You are about to embark on a fun journey of meeting great people who enjoy celebrating this wonderful neighborhood! Enjoy yourselves!

Matt & Lucas

Neighbors and Nonprofits: Inner City Christmas Party

christmas-present-boy.jpg The youth at St. Thomas More Parish want to thank the residents of Heritage Greens for their generous support in the past years. Your support makes it possible to hold this event for 4- and 5-year-old students from Denver Public Schools.

On December 10, hundreds of young children will come to St. Thomas More for a day of celebration and fun. The children will enjoy a puppet show, face painting, lunch, a magic show, balloon animals, coloring, playing, and, of course, a visit and gift from Santa Claus.

In the past, Heritage Greens has been a generous sponsor to help with the cost of putting on such an event. Food, entertainment, supplies and gifts (approximately $25.00 for each child) need to be purchased or donated. Remember, for many of these children, this will be some of the few gifts they receive. Any donation you could make would be appreciated. Please mail your tax-deductible check, payable to St. Thomas More Church, to 8035 S. Quebec St., Centennial, Colorado 80112, attention David Tschumper.

The party is December 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in McClellan Hall. If you would like to come and help the teenagers of STM, or make cookies, or serve lunch, please contact David Tschumper in the Youth Ministry Office at youth@stthomasmore.org. If you have any further questions, please call Shari Lamb, a HG resident, at 303-740-7897.

From Centennial: Street Sweeping and Yosemite Closed

The sweeping of public streets in the City of Centennial is currently underway. The dates for our neighborhood are 11/18-11/22.

Please move your vehicles off the street to ensure a clean sweep through our neighborhood.

You can click here to see a map and sweeping dates.

Yosemite St. remains closed in both directions between Dry Creek Rd. and Mineral Ave. due to a water main break. Due to extensive damage to the roadway, crews will need approximately 3 to 4 days to complete these repairs, weather permitting. It is anticipated that Yosemite St. will re-open by the end of this week. Water service has not been disrupted in the area. Alternate routes are advised. Motorists may use Mineral Cir., Quebec St. and Chester St.

Heritage Greens Community Room

Did you know you can rent the Community Room for your next event?

Renting the room is a great perk for Heritage Greens Residents and has been used for events such as birthdays, team dinners, wine tastings and memorial receptions. Renting is easy and can be done online though our website.  For a $100 rental fee you can use the room, kitchen and restrooms for your next social or business event up to 65 people.

$50 Rental Fee for Up to 25 People
We want to encourage use of this great resource!  For the next three months, we will be trialing the rental of the facility for $50. This will be for groups of 25 or less.  You are responsible to leave the room in a clean condition, ready for the next rental. This includes taking out the trash, wiping down counters, vacuuming and spot cleaning bathrooms as necessary. You are also still responsible for any damages to the facility. Guest counts will be done during this trial period. Think of the ease of Hosting at Community Room instead of your home...no toys to clean up or floors to mop!

For more information, see the website (rentals must be submitted online) or contact Heather Kelly via email or cell phone 720-979-9921.

Community Room Coordinator Position Open (Jan. '14)
We are looking for a willing pair (buddies if you like) to take over the responsibilities of renting out the HG Community Room. This is a great way to give back, be involved and add to the strength of our community.  The time commitment is 1-4 hours/per week. Please contact Heather Kelly, 720-979-9921, hmkelly@gmail.com if you would like to find out more.
