September 2013
President's Pen

Greetings!

As we get ready to pull out the gloves and leaf rakes, it feels good to know that we will all get a virtual raise from our water bill savings soon!

You may have noticed the extensive trimming along Holly and other locations in the neighborhood this past month. Please help by trimming up your trees and bushes from the sidewalks and fence lines. The area looks beautiful.

I missed my commitment for a survey before summer, but you should expect to see one this fall. Please take just 5 minutes to respond so we can continue to improve our efforts and focus to stay aligned with the needs of the homeowners.

For those of you long-time Saturday Night Live fans, you may appreciate this quote that works well for a lead into my next topic.

"I always wondered why somebody doesn't do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody."

We have so many great volunteers that have served in various HOA and Board roles, but I am anticipating a few will be leaving at the end of this year after years of volunteering.

I think you would find the great sense of reward and community by taking a turn at keeping Heritage Greens great!

Please email, call me, or come to one of our last few meetings this year (the first Wed of each of each month) to throw your name in the hat for a role in 2014. You may see the list of our current volunteers here and contact them directly to ask questions about their position. Our residents are among the most visible leaders and volunteers in the local schools, city and community. Let's make sure that includes our own HOA.

Thanks so much for your continued support.

All the best.

Tanner Reed Seebaum 1996-2013

Dear Heritage Greens Neighbors,

As many of you know, our son Tanner passed away on July 12th after a long battle with brain cancer. At 16 years old, he was taken much too young. Over the past 13 years that we have lived in Heritage Greens, and especially during the past year, we have received an outpouring of love and support from many of you. It would be impossible for us to properly thank everyone who has made a difference in our lives as our family has dealt with this loss, but we want all who have supported us to know how grateful we are to have you in our lives. We are fortunate to live in this great neighborhood and we owe our gratitude to many Heritage Greens residents.

We have quickly learned the loss of a child is something that is very hard for some to deal with. We realize there may be awkwardness and discomfort in talking about our loss and about Tanner. We also know everyone grieves loss differently, but want the children in HG who knew Tanner (and their parents) to know that we find comfort in remembering Tanner through talking about his accomplishments and inspirational life openly through conversation. We talk about Tanner as a family and with close friends all the time and we encourage you to do the same.

Tanner battled brain cancer bravely for much of his life and he taught us many lessons about what it means to live life to the fullest, even a shorter than expected life. In remembering Tanner, we hope others find inspiration in his story and truly live their lives to the fullest.

Most Sincerely,

Matt, Stephanie & Ellie Seebaum

Recycle, Reduce, Reuse

rcycle REcycle:  Thank you to the 60+ families that participated in the neighborhood garage sale and the few families that put something out for the FREE day.  It seemed that many of those items disappeared!

And a huge thank you to the 26 families that donated their left-over items to Lupus. What a great way to recycle our unwanted items.

As promised, here is a list of places to recycle some of those unwanted items, instead of putting them into the trash and the dump.

CFL's:  ACE hardware, Home Depot, Batteries Plus
(Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs) contain small amounts of mercury that is harmful to the environment. Because of this, they should not be disposed in household trash receptacles.)

Latex PAINT: Greensheen - operates a regional latex paint disposal collection facility located at: GreenSheen Paint  1281 West Dartmouth Ave  Englewood, CO 80110. Recycling Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30pm and Saturday 9am - 1pm
They accept latex paint (not oil based or any other chemical based) that is in liquid form and in its original packaging.

Or dry it out with kitty litter and sand and then put it in the regular trash.

Big - remodeling projects:  bagster bag from Waste Management

Old Medications:  at the King Soopers at 9551 South University Boulevard (Highlands Ranch)  they have the Take Back program

Hazardous cleaning chemicals: contact Waste Management

Christmas Tree lights - will give you locations as we get closer to the holidays

Christmas trees - will give you locations as we get closer to the holidays

Towels:  Denver Rescue Mission

TVs:  Best Buy

Household goods:  Goodwill in the King Soopers parking lot

Eyeglasses:  most eyeglass offices

Batteries: Batteries Plus

If anyone has found a place for those unusual items to be recycled than please let us know and we will share it with others.

League Tennis

Another season of league tennis is winding down and will finish up in late September.  The tennis community has grown so much over the last five years, it is wonderful to see so many people getting involved in this fun, competitive sport. The compliments we get when hosting other teams is always nice to hear; other tennis players always like to come and play at HG. Many thanks to all the captains who volunteer to step up and do what is sometimes a thankless job. I know all your team members appreciate it!

Facilities After Hours

There have been some complaints that there are older children using the common area facilities after hours. If you see someone using the facilities after hours, please call the Arapahoe County Sheriff non-emergency line at 303 795 4711. If you think that your children could be involved, please discuss this with them. We are noting license plate numbers and will be contacting those responsible if there are any issues.

TLC Meals on Wheels

Do you know a senior or homebound individual who would benefit from having a hot meal and a friendly word delivered to their home five days a week? For nearly 50 years TLC Meals on Wheels has been providing nutritious meals to seniors and others in the Littleton/Englewood/Centennial area.

For many, the delivery of a hot lunch is much more than just a meal. A friendly visit from our volunteer drivers gives the recipient a sense of security to know someone is checking in and also helps break the isolation many homebound people feel. As a result they maintain independence in the comfort and familiarity of their home.

There are no age or income criteria to qualify. Recipients pay based on their financial ability. So contact TLC Meals on Wheels if you or someone you know is in need of this kind of assistance. For details please call 303-798-7642, or go to  www.TLCMealsonWheels.org

Requests should be submitted in writing to ACCU per the request form (click here). If you are thinking about a new roof, please review the approved roofing materials (click here).

Click here for more information and to review all the documents before submitting your request.
