I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend and I'm sure you all join me in extending a debt of gratitude to all the Heritage Greens residents that have served or are currently serving in our Armed Forces! It's always great to see so many American flags flying in front of the houses. We had a very successful opening of the pool and I hope everyone is enjoying the community area with friends and family. A special thanks to Kyle Linhardt (pool), Sue Carothers, Holly Malcolm (Gators swim team) and many others for a seamless start to the season for residents. Behind the scenes, these volunteers put countless hours into making our neighborhood pool and programs best in class! You may have noticed the outstanding improvements in our lifeguard enforcement of the rules at the pool this year. Upon entering, residents are being asked to sign in and the guest policy is being strictly enforced. The majority of feedback has been very positive and our residents will now be able to enjoy the pool as intended without non-residents funneling in and out as they choose. Please support the lifeguards as they have a very difficult job and are looking out for your safety and protection. If you have feedback or concerns, please email or call Kyle or myself directly and we will be happy to help. We understand there are unique situations and do our best to accommodate them. Lastly, it's important to remind parents that you are ultimately responsible for your kids and their behavior in the common areas. Use of these areas and our programs is a privilege (not a right). In Heritage Greens we strive to be respectful to our friends, teammates and neighbors. Here's to a great summer break! |

Recycle, Reduce, Reuse
| | |
In the spirit of helping our community, here are a few tips that can help you recycle, reduce and reuse.
RECYCLE: Latex Paint - GreenSheen Paint
31 E. Panama Dr. Unit I; Centennial, CO. 80121
(303) 514-3955.
- "Not only does GreenSheen recycle the paint we collect, we also recycle the plastic and metal cans and pails it comes out of.
- We use the products we gather to produce our quality latex paint that is available in a wide range of designer inspired colors, great for use inside and out and available at a fraction of the cost of virgin content paints.
- We accept latex paint (not oil based or any other chemical based) that is in liquid form and in its original packaging.
- We do not consolidate partially full cans of paint. We collect paint by volume, not container. There is no incentive to consolidate partially full cans. We want the paint in its original containers so we can more accurately identify it."
REUSE: Used Towels
We will collect towels at the pool at the end of each month and donate those towels to the Denver Rescue Mission.
REDUCE: Yard Waste
When yard waste is added to the landfill it will break down more quickly if it is not in a plastic bag. Think about putting your yard waste in a bag that breaks down or directly into your regular trash.
RECYCLE: Do Your Part at the Pool
We have 2 types of trash receptacles. Please use the yellow-lidded bins for anything that is recyclable: papers, magazines, water bottles, etc.
Do Your Part on the Tennis Courts: We have provided a recycle bin at the tennis courts. Walk your opened tennis ball cans, lids, plastic bottles, wine bottles and cans into the recycle bin. It is located on your way out and it is a tiny way to help.
REUSE: Garage Sale
Be saving your items for the annual neighborhood garage sale that is held at the end of the summer.
|
Website Feature of the Month: Business Directory
| |
There is yet another new feature available on our website called the Business Directory. Take a look here: http://www.heritagegreens.org/busdirectory.php But it needs content!! Do you have a favorite doctor, contractor, painter, landscaper, etc.? Submit your favorite businesses. If you don't see the right category just suggest a new one. Do you own a business that could be listed here? Feel free to write your own description and promote your company. Be sure to note that the business is owned by a HG resident. You can also submit a review of a business. All submissions will be reviewed and approved before they appear on the website. |
Safety: What a Burglar Won't Tell You
| | |
I love looking in your windows. I'm looking for signs that you're home, and for flat screen TVs or gaming systems I'd like. I'll drive or walk through your neighborhood at night, before you close the blinds, just to pick my targets. Sometimes, I carry a clipboard. Sometimes, I dress like a lawn guy and carry a rake. I do my best to never, ever look like a crook. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it. Do you really think I won't look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet. Here's a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids' rooms. You're right: I won't have enough time to break into that safe where you keep your valuables. But if it's not bolted down, I'll take it with me. I'll break a window to get in, even if it makes a little noise. If your neighbor hears one loud sound, he'll stop what he's doing and wait to hear it again. If he doesn't hear it again, he'll just go back to what he was doing. It's human nature. You should announce your vacation on your Facebook page. It's easier than you think to look up your address. I always knock first. If you answer, I'll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters. (Don't take me up on it.) If you don't answer when I knock, I try the door. Occasionally, I hit the jackpot and walk right in. Read them all here.
