March 2013
President's Pen

In just a couple of weeks, spring will officially be upon us here in Heritage Greens. While it has seemed quiet over the past month with all the cold and snow, the HOA has been very busy as we prepare for a fun-filled year and summer season.

In this month's newsletter you'll hear some fantastic updates including our first big social event in April, the new online system for making reservations and payments, and plans for this years tennis and swim leagues.

On a separate note, I am soliciting help from our retirees and empty-nesters to help bring all the great activities you enjoy in the neighborhood to life in our monthly newsletter and website to raise awareness. Whether its Tuesday fly-fishing trips (please invite me), bunko at the clubhouse, or 3 p.m. margarita poker, we want to know about it. If you're interested in leading that effort, please email Heidi Elliott, our newsletter editor at HGNewsWeb@gmail.com or myself to help us get started!

Speaking of our retiree community and the amazing impact they bring, I had the pleasure of meeting with Lynn Leader and her husband Ron this month. The Leaders have been in Heritage Greens since the late 70's when they built their home. Lynn was very active representing Heritage Greens at the monthly city meetings (now CenCON) from 1980-2010. Lynn and Ron just moved last week to Windsor for retirement with friends so please join me in wishing them well and thanking them for their many years of helping our community.

Just as a reminder, our next HOA and board meeting is Thursday March 14 in  the community room. All are welcome as we review the 2013 plan, demonstrate the website and online reservation system, and discuss open homeowner items. We really hope to see you there!

Have a safe and fun spring break! (For those of us not yet retired)

More Events This Year!
HG Social has an action packed and exciting line up of events planned for 2013. We are planning the usual annual parties: Casino Night, Fourth of July and Luau, as well as adding a few new fun events. We will choose one or two Sundays a month to host a BBQ at the pool over the summer. It will be complete with good food and cold signature adult beverages. We are also planning a wine and scotch tasting to be held at the Community Room. For the kids, we will be doing a movie night over the summer break. We will be posting specific dates for the parties as soon as possible. We are excited for a fun and social 2013.

Swim Team Kicks Off a New Season

Summer is on its way and swim practices will start in the afternoons after school on May 13th.

Are you interested in your children being involved in a great Heritage Greens neighborhood tradition? Come join the Gators! Your kids will enjoy a great summer activity that runs mid May through mid July. The kids will get into great shape with daily outdoor exercise, join their friends and make new ones during practices, swim meets and plenty of social activities. Check out our web site at http://heritagegreens.rmsl.org or contact the team's parent representatives: Sue Carothers, sailkerry@comcast.net or Holly Malcolm, hollymalcolm@comcast.net for more information.

GATORGRAM COOKIES:

If you have a child that might be interested in joining the swim team this summer and would like to be included in our Gator cookie delivery in mid March, please let us know by March 11 and we'll add them to our list. Email Sue at sailkerry@comcast.net. All the kids on our 2012 roster will already be receiving a cookie.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN SWIM LEAGUE:

We have a new team joining the RMSL this year, Sundance Hills. That has changed the organization of the league into four divisions, Heritage Greens remains in Division B. The league would like to add an additional team, but that will not be happening for this season. In the meantime, the addition of 1 team, bringing the league up to 19 teams, has meant that some teams would have been eligible for a Bye week. In order not have our season disrupted by an off week, Heritage Greens will be part of a Tri Meet with Stonegate and Knolls at the Stonegate pool. This will be new for all of the teams but we're very excited to TRI something new.

REGISTRATION:

Registration for the 2013 summer swim season will begin on April 1. You will be able to register online at our web site http://heritagegreens.rmsl.org. Please be prepared to sign up for your volunteer assignments when you register. Register quickly for the best selection of volunteer assignments.

GATOR PRE-TEAM:
We will be building on the success of our first two years with our Gator Pre-team.  We often have people ask, "How do I decide if the pre-team or the swim team is the right fit for my child?"  Both our competitive team and Pre-team are intended for kids that have had some swimming lessons and are comfortable in the water.  The Gator Pre-team provides an opportunity for kids who are not quite ready for swim competition to develop their swimming skills and participate in the fun of the neighborhood swim team.  The goal of the program is to prepare kids to move up to the competition team by the following season or when they are ready.  The Pre-team swimmers will enjoy all of the fun of being a Gator, but will participate in customized practices and not be expected to compete in meets.  Practices will be offered each weekday, but Pre-team members may opt to attend practice fewer than 5 days per week. To top off their summer we will have a mini swim meet just for the Pre-team.

More information will be coming soon. If you have questions or ideas, please contact Sue or Holly.

GATOR GEAR:

Swimsuits and other gear will be available on Tuesday April 9 and Wednesday April 10 at our Heritage Greens Community Room from 4-8 pm.  Come check out our new swim suit design.  You are, of course, welcome to reuse "old" Gator suits that still fit.  This year the boys will have two style options:  either jammers (long) or a racer (like a Speedo).  We'll be offering other gear such as swim caps, sweat suits, beach towels, backpacks and green plaid pajama pants. Most of these items can be customized with your child's name or initials. If you are unable to attend one of these evenings, please contact Shelley Thompson at bobandshelley@comcast.net for ordering information.

VOLUNTEERS AND COMMITTEE HEADS:

Thanks to all of you who have agreed to be committee heads for the team. We cannot run this neighborhood team without your help. We do have a few additional spots to fill. Please call Amy or Sue if you are interested.

Here is the scoop!

All of the information and forms you need to reserve the Community Room is on our website under Community Room. Click here to see it.

We have added a calendar so you can check availability of the room very quickly! Your reservation cannot be established until you have filled out the reservation information online and it has been confirmed by Heather Kelly. However, if there is no name on the date/time you are looking at, it is likely that it will be available to you. We hope this helps you in planning future events.

Reservations for Graduation Weekend: May 23rd through May 26th

The Community Room is a great space for graduation parties of all kinds!  For the second year in a row we will conduct a lottery for use of the room over this busy weekend.  If you are interested in hosting a party, please submit your name, email, and first and second choices of date/time to Heather Kelly (hmkelly@gmail.com, 720-979-9921) by Sunday, March 10.  If necessary, names will be drawn on Monday, March 11 for any times that are in conflict. NEW Tennis Court Reservation Website and League Tennis

This year there will be a new way to reserve a tennis court. It's all online and easy to use! Visit the website at www.heritagegreens.org, log in (if needed) and go to the Tennis Court and Community Room Reservations tab. From there choose a tennis court to see the calendar of when the court is available or reserved. You can put in a reservation by just clicking the calendar when you would like to play. It's easy.

It will be important to use the court when you reserve it or delete your online reservation if you can not use it. We want to be sure it is available to other residents. Please read the Tennis Court Reservation Policy below.

If you want to learn more about how to make a tennis court reservation, and see it done, come to the HOA board meeting on Thursday March 14 for a website demonstration.

New Well Drilling on South Suburban Golf Course

The replacement well at South Suburban Golf Course that we told you about last month will be drilled a little later than expected. We expect drilling to begin the first or second week of April. Remember that this will involve some very large equipment moving to and from the site, delivery of large amounts of materials, and numerous vehicles moving in and out on the service road. These operations to drill and complete the well will take nearly 30 days. Once the actual drilling begins it cannot be stopped, which means that a continuous operation for 24 hours a day for approximately four days will be required.

The drilling company will provide noise reduction equipment, but using large equipment of this type will generate some noise. We will do all that is possible to minimize the disruption in your normal peaceful setting. In advance, thank you for your consideration during this time of construction.

Tom Harston, Superintendent South Suburban Golf Course
