January 2013
President's Pen - Happy New Year!

I am honored to have the opportunity to kick off 2013 as your new President. My wife Val and I moved into Heritage Greens with our two children Keaton (10) and Carsen (5) in 2009 and absolutely love it here. Both of us are from Colorado (despite a five year stint in Seattle where Keaton was born) and love the mountains and Bronco sunsets.

We have been so impressed by the sense of community, fantastic neighbors, and wonderful enhancements to this neighborhood in recent years. I couldn't help being inspired to find a way to contribute to the continuation of that trajectory with our great HOA board and team. Join me in thanking Tracy Anderson, Todd Ablowitz, Jeff Smith, Todd Mata, Joe Graziano, and Amy Walker Kurtz who are leaving their posts after many great contributions to keep Heritage Greens spectacular. Also a huge thank you to all of the volunteers who stepped up or decided to continue to donate their time to the neighborhood for 2013. See all the positions and names later in this newsletter. I would also like to thank Heidi Elliott for the new community website which has transformed how we can communicate with each other as neighbors and get messages and updates real time. If you haven't had a chance to log in and update your information, I would highly recommend it (see last article).

As we start the new year, the HOA will be finalizing a 2013 strategic plan which will be shared on the internal website by the end of January. That plan will outline our goals, projected budget, and milestones for key events, clubs and socials during the year. With major project completions in the past two years (community area, website) we now have the opportunity to look at what's next. Ideas include working with the city for enhancements to Linksview park and its parking challenges, expanding access to the community room for homeowners, addressing car speeds through the neighborhood, and further strengthening the architectural review process and enforcement.

The HOA is here to protect and continually enhance the integrity of our community and to serve the best interest of our collective homeowners. Please help us by maintaining pro-active communication with your neighbors and by obtaining approval from the Architectural Control Committee BEFORE starting renovations. We greatly appreciate your support.

Please feel free to contact me directly with any inputs for the 2013 plan or just general questions, comments, or concerns. My email is HGPres@gmail.com and my cell phone is 303-570-8291. Our standing HOA meetings are at the community room at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month (starting Jan 10) and I encourage you to join us whenever possible.

I hope to get to know each and every one of you in the year to come.

Jeff Rector

If You Want to Build It.... Get It Approved

The Architectural Control Committee must approve all updates and changes to homes and landscaping. Requests should be made 30 days prior to work starting.

Requests should be submitted in writing to ACCU per the request form on the website (click here). ACCU tracks requests and forwards them to the Architectural Control Committee. The committee consists of homeowner volunteers and has 30 days to review and approve requests. Owners are not contacted during the process unless additional information is needed.

Paint requests should include paint samples, a website to view samples or colors painted on the side of the house. Landscaping should include detailed plans. Home additions, decks, and patios must include plans, materials, and colors.

If the request involves fencing or work close to property lines, a survey showing the property line should be included with the request. When necessary, county/city approvals should also be included with the request. If the request involves changes to measurable square footage of the home, it must be approved by the Board and neighbors must be notified.

Thank You For Supporting the HG Swim Team with Luminarias

We once again had a successful luminary and Butter Braid sale thanks to our wonderful neighbors and their support of our neighborhood swim team.

This event's success was helped by our sponsors and volunteers. We would like to extend a special thank you to:

  • Anne Dresser Kocur, with Fuller/Sotheby's International Realty. For the past several years Anne has donated the long reach lighters for orders of four dozen or more.
  • Jeff and Jen Gruidel with Freight Logistics once again provided free freight services for our candles from Southern California.
  • Our great volunteers were headed up by Beth Thompson with the help of Jan McElhiney, Janice Knispel, Amy Kurtz, Meredith McKinnon, Mindy Wilson, Jennifer Gruidel, Molly Brandsma, Shelley Thompson, Heather and Mike Kelly, Kristen Dimig, Stafie Parker, Joy Coulter-Brown, Julie Hanna and Mary Dean.

Thank you for keeping our neighborhood holiday tradition alive.

Recycle, Reduce, Reuse

South Suburban Parks and Recreation will offer Christmas tree recycling at its Willow Springs Service Center, 7100 S. Holly St., in Centennial from Dec. 26 through Jan. 14.

All decorations need to be removed from the tree, including lights, ornaments, garland, tinsel and stands. Flocked or artificial trees and yard refuse will not be accepted.

The trees will be mulched and used in landscaping throughout the South Suburban District. District residents can obtain free mulch, beginning Dec. 26. The mulch will be available weekdays, 7 am until 3:30 pm at both recycling sites. Call South Suburban at 303-798-5131 for more information.
