Lizards...by Janet Perez Eckles

Sometimes a perfect ending to a Sunday is a relaxing bath.

As I headed to the tub, hubby gripped my arm.

Close up of a green lizard's head
"Whoa, stand right there," he said. " You've got a visitor."

A lizard had wiggled itself inside the bathroom and made our tub his playground. No big deal. In Florida, lizards slither under screen doors and squeeze through any crack. They're as common here as eighty-degree weather in December.

With full confidence, I stood still, waiting while hubby chased the skinny intruder. Then he trapped it and with one quick scoop, lifted it in the air and released it outside.

Once again, he proved to be my hero.

But when lizards of problems slither in my life, I forge ahead to battle them on my own. The struggle is fierce because I'm hindered by frustration, impatience and foolish pride. Admitting my futility, in my mind the lizard becomes a huge alligator, threatening to eat me alive.

Frustrated frowning woman, eyes closed and hands holding her head We all do that sometimes, don't we? We try to fight intruders on our own. But we only win when wisdom appears. We call upon God, count on His power, and while we're still...very still...we simply wait.

That's when His Word guides our thinking, stops our fears, and traps our anxiety.

From now on when problems come, we will stop, watch and wait, because we know, The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still (Exodus 14:14).

What lizards are you trying to fight on your own these days?
Seeing the best of Life,

Janet
