At Home in God's Will...by Pamela Higgins

Recently I returned from another international mission trip, but this time quite homesick.

Isaiah 6:8 says, And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am! Send me."

That last part is me. Over 10 years ago, I said, "Here I am! Send me. I'll go." And God called me to go. Since then I've had four trips to Russia, two to Costa Rica, 4 years in Kenya, and now a week in Columbia. It is difficult to put into words the feelings I get, but I am going to give it a shot.

Each time I go on a mission trip---short or long, no matter where---I am at home. But it is more than a physical home. I am fulfilling the purpose God has for me and feel so close to HIM. The experience gives me a strength, peace, and joy that are truly incredible. There's a feeling of wholeness---completeness---that I am where God wants me to be.

This spiritual sensation of being home comes whenever I am closest to God. Because HE is my HOME! HE is where I want to be, 24/7. That close to HIM...always.

But now that I am at my physical home on this earth, I feel homesick. Tears come for no reason. Why? Because this world is not my home. My home is with God. My home is fulfilling the purpose He has for me. My home is being wrapped in the loving arms of my Heavenly Father and my savior Jesus Christ.

God has placed me here for a reason, and I need to continually seek His will and follow His lead. Then I will truly be at home, no matter where I am.

Jesus said in Matthew 28:19, Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

That is my purpose on this earth---going, reaching, and drawing people to God. Though in many different ways, all of us who call ourselves a Christian have this same purpose. For it is the will of God that all come to HIM.

Dustin Willis has said, "An everyday missionary is one who lives life on mission where God has placed him."*  This is what I want---to be ON mission wherever I am, doing HIS will each moment of every day.

Then I will no longer feel homesick, incomplete, or without purpose. I will be complete in HIS will, always at home, no matter where I am. HE can call me to go anywhere on this earth, because HE is my home!
