A man with face buried in his hands

Do not worry. I am with you. Follow me.

May God lead you to the right question!

In the movie iRobot, Detective Del Spooner investigates the apparent suicide of Dr. Alfred Lanning. After viewing the body, Spooner uses a device left for him by Dr. Lanning himself, one that allows him to interact with a specially programmed holographic image of the doctor.

Lanning: Everything that follows is a result of what you see here.

Spooner: Is there something you want to tell me?

Lanning: I'm sorry. My responses are limited. You must ask the right questions.

Spooner: Why did you call me?

Lanning: I trust your judgment.

Spooner: Normally, these circumstances wouldn't require a homicide detective.

Lanning: But then our interactions have never been entirely normal. Wouldn't you agree?

Spooner: You got that right...is there something you want to say to me?

Lanning: I'm sorry. My responses are limited. You must ask the right questions.

Spooner: Why would you kill yourself?

Lanning: That, Detective, is the right question.

For Spooner, the doctor was not a victim. Years before, Lanning had saved his life. He was the detective's friend. So Spooner wanted to know every who, what, when, where, and why. But he asked the wrong questions---questions with simple answers which required no effort. He was satisfied with simply being told. But Lanning wanted him to search for the truth and commit to knowing it.

We do the same with God. Something bad happens. Things don't go the way we want. Our lives are turned upside down. And we want answers. "Where were You?"

Like Detective Spooner, we ask the wrong questions. We want simple answers that tell us everything. But God's responses are limited because He has chosen them to be. He gives us clues to study. He wants us to search for Truth and commit to knowing Him. Think of it this way...

You are investigating the death of Jesus. You've read the reports. Seen the evidence. You stand on a rocky, barren hill near an empty cross. Then Jesus appears.

Jesus: Everything that follows is a result of what you see here.

You: Is there something you want to tell me?

Jesus: I'm sorry. My responses are limited. You must ask the right questions.

You: Why did you call me?

Jesus: I want you to be my light in this dark world.

You: Normally, these circumstances wouldn't require one with my faults and weaknesses.

Jesus: But then our interactions have never been entirely normal. Wouldn't you agree?

You: You got that right...is there something you want to say to me?

Jesus: I'm sorry. My responses are limited. You must ask the right questions.

Seek God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. You will find Him. And He will help you answer the questions that matter most.

You: Why would you die on that cross?

Jesus: That, my friend, is the right question.

Take care & be God's,

Chuck
