You can do it too!
"Thanks to the Women's Center I can now list Microsoft Word Certification on my resume with confidence, and you can do it too!"
Josie is a graduate of WRIC's Office Technology job training program. She enrolled in the two-month course to prepare for work after being a stay-at-home mom with her young son. "This is very important training for today's job demands," says Josie. In addition to the computer training class that consisted of Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint, Josie says she learned to "create a resume that catches an employer's eye, to know what to say or not say on an interview, and how to dress to impress." Through the WorkFirst NJ program, Josie qualified for fully-funded career training at a NJ- approved training facility, and she selected WRIC so she could become certified. "The Women's Center and their staff put together a program that really helped me. I was worried about how I was going to pay for the [Microsoft Office Specialist] certification fee, but I found out that I didn't need to worry because that too was paid for by the Women's Center." With additional assistance from her WorkFirst NJ counselors, Josie also received help with childcare and transportation costs. Like Josie, individuals receiving government assistance, displaced homemakers and dislocated workers receiving unemployment benefits may also be eligible for funded training. "When I first signed up, the thought of me touching a computer and understanding something other than Facebook was very scary. But when I finished my class, I walked out with the confidence that is needed to work on a computer in an office." Congratulations Josie!

"Princess Party"
brings happiness and
boosts self-esteem
for young girls
When it was time to plan her daughters 5th birthday, WRIC supporter Manuela Seigerman wanted to celebrate in a different way - by giving back. The way she described it was that she and her family are very blessed, her daughter has everything that she needs. So for Sophia's birthday, Manuela decided to share the joy of the day by inviting four little girls from the Women's Center to her daughter's party to be a "princess for a day". When the girls arrived, they were treated just like royalty! Each was given a beautiful little princess gown to wear, they took turns getting their hair styled and crowned with jewels, and then had their nails manicured with sparkly pink or purple nail polish. Next, they had the thrill of meeting Cinderella, Snow White, and Ariel who taught them how to wave and smile like a princess. Then, they were escorted into a beautifully decorated balloon-filled ballroom where their parents and other guests were waiting for their grand entrance. The afterno on of games, dancing and lunch culminated with gifts and pictures with the Princesses. It was a wonderful event which filled the girls with pride and joy, and a healthy boost of self esteem. We are so grateful to Manuela for her generosity, kindness and amazing heart for others.
