In order to increase the number of college graduates in our state, we must significantly increase the number of community college transfer students to our universities. This is why in 2010 and 2013, with Senator Alex Padilla's leadership, we championed historic transfer reform legislation (SB 1440 & SB 440). Below we provide you with an update on how California is doing. One thing is certain, The Campaign for College Opportunity will continue to work towards ensuring that a strong transfer pathway that helps students reach their college graduation dreams is finally true for a much larger number of our community college students.

Best Practice: California State University, Long Beach

Great strides continue to be made in transfer reform implementation and California State University, Long Beach is leading the way. Not only have they created 25 new degree pathways into top majors but they are also expanding access by admitting students to nearly all of the concentrations within the majors offered as well. To the Maryland legislature regarding transfer reform in CA

Maryland recently enacted historic higher education legislation The Maryland College and Career Readiness and College Completion Act of 2013. The comprehensive set of bills sets a bold goal for college completion and addresses the important role of transfer students in meeting this goal. At the request of the Maryland Legislature, our Executive Director Michele Siqueiros was invited to testify on the implementation efforts and lessons learned from California's Associate Degree for Transfer Program. On Tuesday, our Executive Director participated in a forum hosted by former Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis (current Scholar in Residence at Cal Poly Pomona) to share this new analysis and discuss the importance of full implementation of transfer reform legislation.
