"We are one step closer to realizing the vision of historic transfer reform," said Michele Siqueiros upon the news of SB 440 (Padilla) moving to unanimously off the Senate floor on a vote of 39-0 Tuesday.

In order to strengthen transfer in California, and significantly increase the number of college students that earn an associate degree and transfer to the four-year state university system, SB 440 will:
  1. Set clear benchmarks for expanding the Associate Degree for Transfer program at community colleges and create Associate Degrees for Transfer in areas of emphasis;
  2. Require the CSU to accept these degrees in each degree option within a major field;
  3. Require the CSU to develop an admission redirection process for students with this degree who are not admitted to their campus of choice; and,
  4. Strengthen communication and outreach of this pathway for students across our state.

The Campaign would like to express our sincere thanks to Senator Alex Padilla, who has been unwavering in his commitment to create a clear and strong transfer pathway for California's community college students.

We would also like to thank you.  Many of you have been on the journey to reform transfer with us since 2009 when The Campaign supported AB 440, a bill that would have allowed community colleges to offer an associate degree for transfer.  We continue to come together on behalf of college students trying to realize their goals.  A special thanks to the long list of prominent partners:
