Californians are Working Harder But Many are Left Behind
The Campaign Has Released a New Report Today
For decades education has been the great equalizer in our society. It has been the path to opportunity through which all families can secure a better future, yet despite working hard, low-income families are increasingly falling behind in economic success.
California now ranks No. 1 in the nation for workers living in poverty and the trend is worsening. Our new statewide report, Working Hard, Left Behind details the economic state of California's low-income adults and finds that low educational attainment is the one common characteristic of the working poor. This inequity is both a social justice and economic imperative. Economic security should not be out of reach for people who are working hard when higher education can be a viable pathway from poverty to prosperity.
