RFID Cards Not as Secure as You Think

Electronic pickpocketing is expected to become more of a problem as credit card technology advances.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) cards contain a chip that broadcasts out a signal containing your credit card number, expiration, and often your name. Banks and retailers like this technology because it makes paying for merchandise easier. A simple wave of a credit card over a sensor will pay for everything.
The problem is the chip doesn't have any kind of an on/off switch, which means it is constantly broadcasting your information. Walt Augustinowicz is the Founder/CEO of Florida-based Company Identity Stronghold. At KOB 4 On Your Side's request, Augustinowicz traveled to Albuquerque to demonstrate how easy it is to take advantage of RFID cards.

Contactless payment cards being tripped...

Reports are coming in that MasterCard PayWave and Visa payWave NFC (near field communications) credit and debit cards are being accidentally triggered by Marks and Spencer EFPOS terminals - even when a customer uses another card to pay for their goods.
Reports have been floating around on the finance forums for a few months now, but the BBC Money Box radio programme says that, since M&S rolled out the contactless payment card system to its 600-plus stores earlier this year, there have been a spate of complaints.
The NFC-enabled cards are designed to operate up two inches away from a suitably equipped terminal - similar to the TfL Oyster cards seen on tubes and buses in London.
