Featured Trail: Cape Mabou Highlands
By Steven Rolls

Mabou is known for many things: its Scottish roots, the Red Shoe Pub, and lively square dances to name a few. One of its greatest kept secrets, however, is the Cape Mabou Highlands trail system.

This wondrous highland network has 12 nature trails, measuring over 3o km in total (some trails may be closed due to a spruce bark beetle infestation). The trails take you along old cart tracks, which connected pioneer settlements, and near sheer oceanside cliffs and isolated beaches. You will travel rising mountains, hardwood forests, glens, and meadows. View the full posting here. Check out the Cape Mabou Trail Club website here.

Steven Rolls is a Hike Nova Scotia board member and he maintains the website Moosebait.com, which is dedicated to the hiking trails of Cape Breton.
