Hike NS Winter Guided Snowshoe Hike Series 2015
Hike Nova Scotia and 16 host organizations across the province have partnered up to offer the 2015 Winter Guided Snowshoe Hike series in January, February and March. There are 35 snowshoe hikes led by local folks and participants qualify to win "trail prizes." Hike NS thanks its partners for organizing the hikes on the ground as well as the NS Trails Federation and the NS Department of Health and Wellness for their support. Check out the list of events here.

Survey on Trail Use by Women & Girls

Walking Wednesdays Winter Challenge
Heart&Stroke Walkabout™ is launching a six-week challenge entitled Walking Wednesdays Winter Challenge for workplaces. To participate, a minimum of three employees from your worksite will commit to walk together (for at least 10 minutes) every Wednesday from mid-January to the end of February. There will be weekly draws in addition to a grand prize draw for a healthy lunch for your walking team. Here is how it works: A Walkabout at Work leader, or future Walkabout at Work leader, registers their workplace and participant names by e-mail to [email protected] by January 19. Space is limited so be sure to register early.

Trans Canada Trail Funding

NS Trails is the provincial partner for the Trans Canada Trail (TCT) in Nova Scotia. As such, it is tasked with connecting the TCT in Nova Scotia by 2017, also Canada's 150th birthday celebrations. Currently, 50% funding is available through NS Trails for greenway or water route projects that close the gaps in Trans Canada Trail (TCT) connection here in Nova Scotia. This is an opportunity for trail partners across the province to build local trail infrastructure by leveraging the TCT's 50 cent dollars. If you have a project you would like NS Trails to consider contact:

This is a spectacular and challenging 18-km hiking trail through the provincially protected Economy River Wilderness Area. This trail is one of the few wilderness trails in Nova Scotia and is intended for experienced hikers only.

The trail follows the Economy River gorge, passes by Newton Pond and Newton Lake and includes spur trails to waterfalls on Chain Lake Stream and Murphy Brook. The trail has several stream and river fords, with no bridges.
