Update on Coalition Governance Review

Early last fall, the Coalition Leadership Council initiated a Governance Review in order to ensure that the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness Society is optimally structured to fulfill its mission of ending homelessness in the region by 2018. The Leadership Council engaged a volunteer Community Review Team, chaired by original Coalition Community Co-Chair Ted Hughes and along with members Bernie Pauly, Margaret Lucas and Brenda Eaton.

At the Leadership Council meeting on December 15th the Leadership Council received the report, in confidence and for information only and tasked the LC's Governance Review Committee with developing a framework for decision making with regards to the recommendations. Once a framework for decision making is developed, the LC will meet again to consider the recommendations and work through how to best put them into action. Affected stakeholders such as Coalition staff, partners, funders and interested community members will be fully informed about the decision making process once the Leadership Council has had an opportunity to discuss the Community Review Team's report more fully.

While the contents of the report remain confidential at this time, we wanted to stress that the Community Review Team pointed to the value of the Coalition and the need for the Coalition to remain a strong coordinating body to work to reduce homelessness in the region.

Thanks to all for your ongoing support of the Coalition.

Coalition Co-Chairs

The Coalition's latest report, Homelessness in Greater Victoria: 2014/15 Report on Housing and Supports examines the key structural factors that significantly contribute to homelessness in Greater Victoria, including the growing disparity between income and housing costs.
Not only have vacancy rates decreased in most municipalities within the region but rental rates have also increased making it extremely difficult for low-income earners to secure stable and affordable housing...
Holiday Meals & Closures

We've assembled a page with information about holiday meals, service provider closures and holiday hours.

Visit www.victoriahomelessness.ca/holidays for more information.

If you don't see your organization's holiday hours or closures on the list please contact Cathy to be added.
Street Survival Guide

The WINTER 2015/16 edition of the Street Survival Guide is at the printers!

Volunteers from our Social Inclusion Advisory Committee will be dropping them off at offices in the coming weeks.

We've updated the online versions for your immediate use. Online you will find two versions - one is a printer friendly version to use at your desk or hand out to clients if you've run out of the guides. The other is a desktop friendly version complete with hyperlinks for easy reference.

Thank you to the Victoria Foundation for providing the funding to make this vital resource possible.
