Last Chance to Sign Up: Annual Conference is Just One Week Away

CMS to Allow Flexibility in Year 1 of MACRA
On Sept. 8, the acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced in a blog posting that physicians will have three start date options for performance reporting under the new physician payment system created by the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). MEDPAC Supports Physicians Running for Office
MEDPAC, the MMA's political action committee, held a fundraiser on Sept. 8 for Matt Klein, MD, a member and hospitalist at Hennepin County Medical Center. Klein is running as a Democrat in Senate District 52. Read more here.
MMA Takes Part in National Opioids Symposium in Minneapolis
On Sept. 7 and 8, MMA members and staff took part in a national symposium, "Saving Lives: Innovative Solutions to the Opioid Crisis," that was designed to bring together law enforcement and public health experts to discuss how to establish critical partnerships and effective programs for combating the heroin, fentanyl and prescription opioid crisis. MMA Signs on to Letter to Congress on Telemedicine
The MMA and 48 other associations signed on to a Sept. 12 letter to Congressional leaders asking them to revise the proposed National Defense Appropriations Act titled "Enhancement of Use of Telehealth Services in the Military Health System" so that it better ensures patient safety and accountability. Leadership Positions Open for Resident/Fellow Section
Residents and fellows interested in improving their professional skills and making a difference in the careers of their colleagues are encouraged to apply for several leadership and committee positions within the MMA Resident/Fellow section (RFS). Positions include: chair and vice chair, representative to the MMA Board of Trustees and representatives to several MMA committees. Read more here.
Final Physicians' Social for the Year Set for Oct. 4 in Duluth
Following in the footsteps of the successful Physicians' Socials in Minneapolis and Rochester, the MMA is hosting an event in Duluth on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Harbor View Room at Fitger's, 600 E. Superior St. The event is a celebration of medicine, a thank you to members, and a welcome to new and prospective members. Hors d'oeuvres and drinks will be served.
