Physicians, Physician-in-Training Lobby Legislators on MMA Priorities More than 100 physicians and physician-in-training lobbied their legislators as part of the MMA's annual Day at the Capitol event on March 23. Top priorities discussed included reforming medication prior authorization, ensuring the sunset of the provider (sick) tax and strengthening the state's immunization laws. Read more here.

Bill to Extend APCD Usage Clears Committee HurdleA bill that extends the use of the state's All Payer Claims Database for analysis of health care costs, quality, utilization and disease burden successfully passed through the Senate's Health and Human Services Policy, and Judiciary committees, and has been referred to the Senate floor. MMA Takes Part in National Match Day at U of M Representatives from the MMA attended the University of Minnesota's Match Day celebration March 18. Match Day is the day when graduating medical students find out where they will do their residency. Of the 241 University of Minnesota students who matched, 42 will do residencies in family medicine, 42 in internal medicine and 23 in pediatrics among 20 other specialties. The MMA also served as a sponsor of the U's post-Match Day celebration. MMA Trustee Edwin Bogonko, MD, who said a few words of congratulations to the students, is pictured here (center) with Jarrod Tembreull, who matched at Maine Medical Center, and Angela Vokert, who matched at the University of Arizona-Phoenix.

Save the Date: National Expert to Address Payment ReformThe MMA will host a payment reform discussion on June 1 on the University of Minnesota, St. Paul campus, featuring Harold Miller, president and CEO of the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform. Miller works at the local, state and national levels on initiatives to improve the quality of health care services and to change the fundamental structure of health care payment systems in order to support improved value. Social Events Set for Metro and Rochester Physicians, Residents, StudentsThe MMA is excited to announce the dates and locations of two free networking events in Minneapolis and Rochester for physicians and physicians-in-training this spring. One will take place May 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Surly Brewery in Minneapolis. The second will take place June 8 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Cambria Gallery in Rochester. These events are not only a celebration of medicine, but also a thank you to our members, and a welcome to new and prospective members. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be provided.
