Task Force Recommends Expanding MinnesotaCare, Reinstating Provider Tax
A 29-member panel made up of physicians, legislators, insurers, other health care providers and consumers concluded its work Jan. 15 with a recommendation to increase MinnesotaCare eligibility from 200 to 275 percent of the federal poverty level and to reinstate the 2 percent provider tax. Medical Groups Sought to Pilot Oncology Measures
MN Community Measurement will begin testing new measures related to symptom control during chemotherapy later this year and is seeking clinics to participate in the pilot. Read more here.
Grant Available to Assist Immigrant International Medical Graduates
The Minnesota Department of Health has issued an RFP worth up to $220,000 to fund initiatives to assist immigrant international medical graduates with career guidance and support. Nonprofit organizations in Minnesota are eligible for grants. Applications are due Feb. 12. Read more here.
MMA Governance Update Now Available Online
2015 marked the second full year of the MMA's new governance structure. In 2013, the House of Delegates made a number of changes to the way the MMA is governed. The MMA is to provide annual reports to the membership on progress with implementation and a final report later this year with recommendations on whether the new governance model should continue. Registration Now Open for Day at the Capitol on March 23
Physicians, residents and students can now register for the MMA's annual Day at the Capitol on March 23. During the upcoming legislative session, which begins March 8, the MMA will continue its quest to fix medication prior authorization and to maintain the repeal of the provider tax. In addition, the MMA will advocate for stronger childhood immunization laws, recommending the removal of the conscientiously held belief exemption that allows parents to opt-out of immunizing their children. Rescheduled: Listening Session on Cancer Plan Minnesota Set for Feb. 11
Physicians are encouraged to take part in a one-hour listening session on Feb.11 at 6 p.m. at the MMA offices to help the Minnesota Cancer Alliance gather information for the update of its Cancer Plan Minnesota 2011-2016. Read more here
MACRA Webinar Scheduled for Jan. 26
The MMA will host a webinar on the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) on Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. The webinar, "Making Sense of MACRA: Preparing for Medicare's New Physician Payment Policies," will provide information about the law that replaces the flawed sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula. MMA Makes Electronic Prior Auth Materials Available
This year, all Minnesota prescribers will be required to submit, and payers will be required to accept, electronic prior authorization (ePA) requests for prescription drugs. The MMA has created resources to help members switch to ePA including a fact sheet, answers to frequently asked questions, and a recording of a webinar that took place in December. The MMA learned last month that the Minnesota Department of Human Services will not be able to accept ePA until April 1, 2016, at the earliest.
