District Court Rules in Favor of Avera Marshall Administration
The Lyon County District Court in Marshall, Minn., ruled on Oct. 16 that Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center administration has the authority to amend its bylaws without needing approval from two-thirds of its medical staff. Read more here.
Baseline Data on ACO Development in Minnesota Released
A recent Minnesota Department of Health report shows that half of surveyed physicians, clinics and hospitals in Minnesota are part of an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). The report also revealed that about 40 percent of the commercially insured population in Minnesota is receiving care from a provider affiliated with an ACO. Read more here.
Event Tackles Difficult Practice Issues
Physicians from all types of practices can find solutions for dissatisfaction and burnout at a special event, "Opportunities and Challenges for Independent Practice," on Nov. 11 at the U of M's St. Paul campus. The event features AMA practice redesign expert Bruce Bagley, MD, MAAFP, who will offer an overview of today's changing marketplace, describe why physicians need to change the way they practice and offer tools to help physicians succeed. CMS Extends Info Deadline on MACRA
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has extended to Nov. 17 the comment period for its Request for Information (RFI) for the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). Earlier this year Congress passed MACRA , which replaced the flawed Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula. Now, CMS is looking for information regarding implementation of the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System, promotion of alternative payment models, and incentive payments for participation in eligible alternative payment models.
