Ramsey Co. Joins Growing List That Restricts E-cigs
On Sept. 22, the Ramsey County Board voted 6-1 to approve a new ordinance that restricts the use of e-cigarettes inside bars, restaurants, movie theaters, churches and other public places. Read more here
Community Measurement Releases Second TCOC Report
On Sept. 17, MN Community Measurement (MNCM) posted its 2015 Total Cost of Care (TCOC) and Average Cost per Procedure measure results for medical groups in Minnesota and neighboring communities in North Dakota, Wisconsin and Iowa. MNCM released its first ever TCOC report last December. Read more here

Thank you for making the 2015 MMA Annual Conference one of the largest in recent years - 210 participants - and it all kicks off tonight (Sept. 24) with a Hippocrates Cafe presentation. BCBS to Shift Claims Operating System to Highmark Health Solutions (PA) 
Beginning Nov.  1, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota will begin a two-year process of updating its claims processing and underlying operating system to a system managed by Highmark Health Solutions in Pennsylvania. Read more here.

Free Mental Health Triage Available for Physicians
Any healthcare provider seeking mental health triage, referral, or a consultation with a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist regarding a patient, can call the Psychiatric Assistance Line (PAL) weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. This is a free service provided by PrairieCare Medical Group through a grant from the Department of Human Services. PAL also has scheduled a series of children's mental health workshops for primary care physicians through April 2017. For more information, click here
Opioid Seminar in Duluth is Next Week
The MMA will host a free REMS (risk evaluation and mitigation strategy) seminar on opioids for physicians who prescribe extended-release and long-acting opioid medications. The event is Oct. 1 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Black Woods Banquet Center in Duluth. The seminar, which will be led by MMA member Charles Reznikoff, MD, an addiction medicine specialist, will feature food and a cash bar.
