Conference to Look at High-Tech Future

Physicians will have four opportunities to learn how technology can help their practices at the MMA's 2015 Annual Conference. Nationally known technology expert Kyra Bobinet, MD, MPH, will present Saturday's keynote talk, "Scanning Tomorrow's Technology." In addition, physicians can attend "Breakfast with the Futurists" to engage in small-group discussions with the keynote speakers. Read more here.

Minnesota Adolescent Vaccination Rates Continue Rising

While California works toward mandating adolescent immunizations, Minnesota's rates are increasing on their own. That's according to 2014 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Read more here

Ready for ICD-10? It's Only Eight Weeks Away

Only two months remain before the new ICD-10 codes go into effect. Are you ready? Visit the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services website for information on how to prepare for the Oct. 1 deadline. CMS and the AMA recently released FAQs on ICD-10. 

Physicians Encouraged to Take MN PMP Survey by Aug. 7

If you have a Minnesota Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) account, please consider taking a survey regarding the effectiveness and use of the program. The MN PMP sent requests in mid-July to physicians with active PMP accounts. (Please check your SPAM or JUNK mail folders if you did not receive an email in your incoming mail folder.) The results of the survey will be used to enhance and improve the PMP. The survey should take no more than 10 minutes; the deadline for completion has been extended to Aug. 7. The MMA supports your participation.  

MMA Member Sought for International Med Grads Advisory Committee

The Minnesota Department of Health is seeking an MMA member to sit on a new advisory committee that will guide the state's International Medical Graduates Assistance Program.  The program, which was created during the 2015 legislative session, will help immigrants who are international medical graduates integrate into Minnesota's health care delivery system. Opioids Seminars Scheduled for Mankato and Duluth Physicians

The MMA will host two free REMS (risk evaluation and mitigation strategy) seminars for physicians who prescribe extended-release and long-acting opioid medications. The first event will take place on Aug. 13 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Mankato; the second will take place on Oct. 1 at the Black Woods Banquet Center in Duluth. Both events will begin at 5:30 p.m. Food and a cash bar will be available. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Topics Wanted for Discussion at 2015 Annual Conference

The MMA is now accepting topics for its Open Issues Forum at the 2015 Annual Conference. Click here to submit a topic to be considered for discussion. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 22. The Annual Conference will be held Sept. 25 and 26 at the Doubletree Park Place Hotel in St. Louis Park.
