A study released by the Minnesota Department of Health on July 23 reveals that nearly 1.3 million patient visits to emergency departments and hospitals (both admissions and readmissions) in 2012 were potentially preventable. Read more here

MMA Member Sought for International Med Grads Advisory Committee

The Minnesota Department of Health is seeking an MMA member to sit on a new advisory committee that will guide the state's International Medical Graduates Assistance Program, which was created during the last legislative session.  The program will assist immigrant international medical graduates in integrating into the Minnesota health delivery system. Physician Sought for No-Fault Auto Insurance Task Force

The MMA is currently seeking one physician to take part on the Minnesota Department of Commerce's No-Fault Auto Insurance Task Force established during the recent special session. Names need to be submitted by June 30. Read more here

Healthiest State Summit is Two Weeks Away

The Twin Cities Medical Society and the Minnesota Public Health Association will host a Healthiest State Summit on Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Minnesota's Continuing Education and Conference Center in St. Paul. The MMA, UCare, Minnesota Department of Health and HealthPartners are co-sponsors of the event. CME is available. Read more here

A Continued Push for the Elimination of the Provider Tax

Another legislative session has come and gone and the repeal of the Provider Tax remains intact. At the end of December 2019, the 2 percent gross revenues tax on medical services provided by physicians, hospitals, dentists, chiropractors and other health care providers will cease to exist. Opioids Seminars Scheduled for Mankato and Duluth Physicians

The MMA will host two free REMS (risk evaluation and mitigation strategy) seminars on opioids for physicians who prescribe extended-release and long-acting opioid medications. The first event will take place on Aug. 13 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Mankato; the event will be repeated on Oct. 1 at the Black Woods Banquet Center in Duluth. Both events will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and will feature food and a cash bar. This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Issue Topics Wanted for Discussion at 2015 Annual Conference

The MMA is now accepting topics for its Open Issues Forum at the 2015 Annual Conference. Click here to fill out a form so your topic can be considered for discussion. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 22. The Annual Conference will be held Sept. 25 and 26 at the Doubletree Park Place Hotel in St. Louis Park.

$500 Cash Prize Available for Students, Residents

The MMA's second annual poster symposium will be held during the Annual Conference in St. Louis Park. Student and resident participants will have the opportunity to chat with practicing physicians from across the state. Conference attendees will vote on the People's Choice Award, which will be presented during the inaugural dinner, along with a $500 cash prize. Additional information can be found here.
