State to Allow "Designated Certifiers" to OK Patients for Medical Cannabis

New Law Requires Docs to Get Cosmetology License for Certain Procedures
Beginning Aug. 1, physician clinics offering cosmetology, esthiology or nail services for compensation must obtain a salon license, and follow all laws and rules that pertain to that license. Read more here.

Community Measurement Releases New TCOC Report
A new analysis of previously released data on 115 medical groups, representing 1,052 clinics from Minnesota and neighboring states, reveals sizable geographic differences in health care costs. According to the 2014 Total Cost of Care Report from MN Community Measurement, costs range from a low of $415 per patient per month in eastern North Dakota to a high of $535 per patient per month in southeastern Minnesota. The average monthly cost statewide is $435 per patient per month. Read more here.

Healthiest State Summit Scheduled for Aug. 6
The Twin Cities Medical Society and the Minnesota Public Health Association will host a Healthiest State Summit on Aug. 6 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Minnesota's Continuing Education and Conference Center in St. Paul. MMA Looking for Candidates for MMIC and Constellation Boards
The MMA is searching for two candidates to recommend for board positions on MMIC Insurance, Inc. and its parent company, Constellation. Both companies are focused on professional liability markets in Minnesota, regionally and nationally. A strong candidate will have current knowledge or a desire/capability to quickly learn about professional liability issues, demonstrated understanding regarding service on corporate boards and active involvement in organized medicine especially with the MMA. Online Physician's Licensing Surcharge Expires June 30
Effective June 30, the 10 percent e-licensing surcharge on obtaining your physician's license online, enacted by the Minnesota Legislature in 2009, will expire. Physicians whose application or renewal is processed as of 12:01 a.m. on July 1, will receive a refund check for the surcharge amount from the Minnesota Department of Revenue. Submission of a surcharge fee after June 30 will not delay processing of an application or renewal.
