Clinic administrators and physicians are invited to attend a free luncheon called "Inside MNsure: Minnesota's Health Insurance Exchange" on Oct. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the MMA/Twin Cities Medical Society offices, 1300 Godward St. NE, Minneapolis. Learn How to Communicate Better with Patients
The MMA is teaming up with the world-renowned Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis to offer members a free half-day workshop on communicating with patients. The workshop will be held at the theater on Oct. 30 from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Read more here.

Advocacy All-Star Webpages Now Online

The MMA has launched a series of new pages on its website dedicated to the new Advocacy All-Star program. There, you will be able to find out how you can get more politically active and join the effort to help the MMA in its important advocacy efforts.

Member Joins AAFP Board of Directors

MMA member Lynne Lillie, M.D., FAAFP, has been named to the board of directors for the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Lillie is a family physician with 18 years of experience who currently serves at Mayo Clinic Health System of Red Wing. She has a clinical focus on geriatrics, women's health and dermatologic procedures. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic Health System, Lillie served as the medical director for Woodwinds Hospital in Woodbury. The AAFP represents 115,900 physicians and medical students nationwide.

Member Profiled on Healthy States Website

MMA member Maria Veronica Svetaz, M.D., MPH FSAHM, and her Aqui Para Ti (which translates to "Here for You") clinic were recently profiled online by Healthy States. Svetaz, a native of Argentina, caters her clinic to Latino patients living in south Minneapolis. Healthy States is an initiative of American Public Media and Minnesota Public Radio. Its mission is to share knowledge and build relationships that move individuals and communities toward better health. She was also profiled in the November 2012 issue of Minnesota Medicine.

MMA Finalists for Association of the Year

The MMA is one of three finalists for "Association of the Year" as part of the Midwest Society of Association Executives' (MSAE) 7th Annual Outstanding Volunteer Service Awards. The winner will be announced on Oct. 26 at MSAE's Leadership Conference in Brainerd. The other nominees include the Independent Community Bankers Association and the Minnesota Dental Association.

Free Contract Negotiations Forum for Residents and Fellows

Residents and fellows are encouraged to attend a free Transition to Practice educational session on "Contract Negotiations" taking place Nov. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. in room 5-125 Moos Tower on the University of Minnesota campus. The attorneys speaking will cover: finding a suitable employment attorney; defining typical contract terms; understanding how contracts differ in various practice types; and negotiable items such as salary, hours and responsibilities. Save the Date: Day at the Capitol is March 11

The MMA'a annual Day at the Capitol event, at which physicians meet face to face with their state senator and representative to advocate for pro-medicine legislation, has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 11. Because of the extensive renovations underway at the Capitol, the 2015 event will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel St Paul Downtown.
