Health Organizations Urging Early Immunizations

As part of National Immunization Awareness Month, the MMA and several other health organizations are communicating about new statewide immunization requirements that take effect Sept. 1 and urging parents to update their children's vaccinations before the new school year starts. Read more here.

Member Named Chair of Immigrant Medical Task Force

Edwin Bogonko, M.D., immediate past president of the Twin Cities Medical Society, recently became chair of the state's new Task Force on Immigrant International Medical Graduates. Read more here.

MMA Adds Its Name to Letter to CMS on Sunshine Act

The MMA has signed onto a letter to the head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) voicing concern over implementation of the Physician Payments Sunshine Act and to request an expanded timeframe to allow recipients to register, review and dispute their data in the Open Payments System before publication. Call for Posters

Medical students, residents and fellows are invited to share examples of quality improvement, original research or clinical vignettes at the MMA's Annual Conference poster session Sept. 19-20 near Brainerd. This is an excellent opportunity for doctors-in-training to discuss their work with practicing physicians. Posters will be displayed both days. The MMA asks participants to be on hand to answer questions from 4 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 19. A $100 "People's Choice Award" will be awarded during the President's inaugural dinner, which will be held at 7 p.m. that evening. Participants will receive a $50 stipend to help defray travel/lodging expenses. Registration is free for students, residents and fellows. Contact Mandy Rubenstein at 612-362-3740 with questions.

TCOC Webinar Set for Aug. 13

MN Community Measurement (MNCM) will host a webinar on Minnesota's first Total Cost of Care (TCOC) measure for primary care and multi-specialty physician clinics on Aug. 13 from 2 to 3 p.m. The webinar will provide background on the measure and explain how it's calculated. The event will also include a sample of the TCOC report that will be sent to each medical group this fall. The report will include information specifically for medical groups and data that MNCM expects to publicly report before the end of this year. Find the webinar here. Call for Panelist - MMA Annual Conference

MMA is currently seeking one more panelist for it session on technology/innovation at the Annual Conference on Sept. 19-20 near Brainerd. Participants will be asked to give a five-minute opening statement on the topic, participate in the discussion that follows, and answer questions from the audience during a 10- to 15-minute Q&A session.
