Electronic Voting for Officers to Begin Next Week
Ballots to elect 2014-2015 MMA officers will be mailed no later than July 23 to all members with email addresses on file with the MMA. Members have until Aug. 22 to vote. Results will be released soon after. This is the first time the MMA has made electronic voting available to members. Read more here.

Doctors Have a Moral Authority to Lead

Physicians have a moral authority to speak up on behalf of their profession, their patients, the community and the nation as a whole, he notes in his essay, which has generated a lot of buzz online.

Physicians Urged to Register in Open Payments System
Physician registration in the Open Payments system (formerly referred to as the Sunshine Act) is open through Aug. 27. Before that date, physicians can register with the system to view their records and submit a dispute if the information is incorrect. Physicians can also delegate their registration to a staff member. For more information, go online. Information on Open Payments will be made public on Sept. 30, 2014.

Have an issue to be considered at the Annual Conference? Go online for more information on how to submit it. You can submit as an individual member or through your component medical society or specialty society. FYI, submissions received after Aug. 22 may not be considered this year.

Seen an Unusual Case Recently?
Minnesota Medicine would like to know about it. We are highlighting unusual cases or medical "zebras" in the October issue. We are interested in stories about patients with illnesses rarely seen in Minnesota or challenging diagnoses or about encounters that are noteworthy for another reason. We will publish short case studies (approximately 500 to 600 words not including references, tables or figures). You should briefly describe the case and discuss its significance. If you have one to share, please send it to Kim Kiser. Deadline is Aug. 11.
