MMA Member Defends the Profession in Chicago Tribune
MMA member Dionne Hart, M.D., defended the profession in a column in the Chicago Tribune on Oct. 9 regarding a former mentor who is no longer recommending medical school to his students because of the costs associated with becoming a doctor and malpractice insurance, and administrative burdens.

Members Asked to Send Legislators Action Alert on SGR
The MMA sent out an Action Alert on Oct. 8 to members urging them to contact their U.S. representative and senators about repealing the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate formula. "This is the closest we have been to repealing Medicare's failed funding formula known as SGR in years. Please help us keep up the momentum by sending an Action Alert to your legislator today," urged the plea from the MMA's legislative team.

Report Released on Umbilical Clamping
A report comparing patient outcomes with early umbilical cord clamping and later clamping suggests that the latter improves the infant's hemoglobin, up to six months following birth. No other differences were seen between the two approaches.
