The issue of a new MMA governance model has entered into the next phase with the formation of an expanded task force that will consider instituting member-wide voting, creating regular policy councils and determining the future structure of annual meetings. |

Brian Telesz, M.D., a medical resident specializing in anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic, was the overall winner in the clinical vignette poster category. His research is titled, "Size Matters: Low sputum volume may impact the sensitivity of acid-fast smear results." This award was presented during a research symposium at the AMA's Interim Meeting in Honolulu. |
Seeking Opinions on Primary Care
Primary care specialties have been known for long hours, high stress and lower earnings than other specialty careers. Still, every year a number of graduating medical students join the ranks of primary care physicians. Student Outreach Program Seeking Preceptors
ISTOP (Interprofessional Street Outreach Project), a student-run medical outreach group at the University of Minnesota, is looking for preceptors. ISTOP performs basic medical outreach at homeless shelters and soup kitchens around the Twin Cities. The group has shifts Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights as well as Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. The group is able to acquire malpractice insurance through the state of Minnesota to cover its preceptors. If you have any questions please contact Catie Glatz. |
Draft of Health Care Reform Document Now Online
A draft of the Roadmap to a Healthier Minnesota - the Health Care Reform Task Force's recommendations to Gov. Dayton and the Legislature - is now available online. The Task Force met to review and discuss the draft on Nov. 29. If you were not able to attend or would prefer to submit written comments, please email your letter to HealthReform.MN@state.mn.us and include "Roadmap" in the subject. Public comment on the draft Roadmap will be collected until Dec. 10. |
