Angela Justman joins the WMEP

Angela Justman has been hired as new director of finance for the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
Before joining the WMEP, Justman served for nearly five years as corporate controller for Total Administrative Services Corp., a third-party benefits administrator in Madison. She also served as a financial analyst for the firm before becoming corporate controller.

Sustainability Projects Provide Win-Win for Companies and State

Randy Bertram, director of sustainability services with the Wisconsin Manufacturing Extension Partnership (WMEP), cites the U.S. Department of Commerce's definition of sustainable manufacturing to help explain the benefits of the organization's Profitable Sustainability Initiative (PSI).
But, for those who participate in the program, the only one of its kind in the country, its value is summed up in a single exclamation: "Aha!" Obtaining that moment of clarity requires a team of experts, a proven process, and a company commitment to see the projects through to completion.
The payoff? For the 102 participating small and midsized Wisconsin manufacturers to date, operational cost savings of $14.8 million per year and $147.7 million in increased or retained sales.

Wisconsin is one of the states leading the way out of the recession because of its strong manufacturing sector, according to a report from Area Development Online. Wisconsin is second in the nation in manufacturing share of non-farm employment, fourth in terms of the manufacturing share of total gross state product at 19.6 percent and eighth in total manufacturing jobs.
Manufacturing companies employ about 17 percent of Wisconsin's non-farm workforce, which is almost double the national average of 9 percent. |

Finding success in markets outside the US

Exporting can provide a means of boosting sales and profits for small and mid-size manufacturers in Wisconsin looking to take advantage of explosive growth in other parts of the world.
But competing successfully in foreign markets comes with an array of challenges.
A recent Lunch & Learn session, entitled "Achieving Success in the Global Marketplace," put the challenges, as well as opportunities, into perspective before a large group of attendees at events in Pewaukee and Appleton. Paul Byrne of Modine Manufacturing and Matt Jones of Dorner Manufacturing shared their personal experience with global markets with the audience.
