Welcome to New Beginnings at Perennial Transitional House
At Healthy Babies Project, we empower teen parents as they move from adolescence to parenting - and then to completing their education and transitioning into the workforce. Each step is a new beginning.

Now Healthy Babies Project is pleased to announce a special new beginning for both our clients and for the agency: Perennial Transitional House. Located in Ward 7 at 4501 Grant Street NE, Washington, DC, this 6-bedroom facility will provide transitional housing for homeless teen mothers and their babies enrolled in HBP programs as they prepare for independent living. Perennial House offers a safe, clean environment for teen parents we serve who are homeless, while simultaneously providing a home for HBP offices.

The generosity of sponsors ( The Perennial Strategy Group and Bazilio Cobb Associatess) and the expiration of our previous lease led us to this exciting new beginning - and you played a key role. Please accept our deepest thanks for your overwhelming support in financial gifts at the end of 2012, which provided HBP with $29,302.42 for Perennial House and general operations.

About the name

A perennial refers to a plant that continues to bloom year after year over a lifetime. "Perennial House" is a fitting name for this facility in that teen parents come to us at a new beginning in their lives. We equip them to put down strong roots in parenting, life skills, health, and careers -- roots that last a lifetime

President Barack Obama said, "We are true to our creed when a little girl born into the bleakest poverty knows that she has the same chance to succeed as anybody else, because she is an American, she is free, and she is equal ... not just in the eyes of God but also in our own."

Your support means Perennial Transitional House will do that and more for teen mothers and their children. Because of you, homeless teen mothers will now have a place to lay their heads, prepare to give birth, continue their education, and transition to independent living. We look forward to sharing stories of changed lives that have their beginnings in this new place.

This Month's Special Needs at Perennial House

Perennial House is in need of:
  • Stackable washer and dryer (2 sets)
  • Toaster
  • Vitamix blender
  • Set of kitchen dishes
  • Monthly partners: A simple monthly donation may not make a large dent in your budget, but just $50, $25, or even $10 a month make a real difference in the life of a child or family. It's easy, convenient and safe to give through our secure server. Click here to do so.
Learn more about Perennial House on our website. You can also contact us personally by email or at (202) 396-2809 for more information. Thank you for your generosity!
