One Teen's Story: "A Parent Never Gives Up!"
Tanequa-baby By Tiara S.

I am 22 years old and have a 5-month-old baby boy. I got connected to Healthy Babies Project (HBP) when I was about two months' pregnant.

HBP has helped me in more ways than I dreamed possible. Without this program I wouldn't have learned most of the things that I know now about being a parent. Healthy Babies Project has opened my eyes to opportunities that are out there for me and the staff are helping me pursue them: getting a job and reapplying for school, for example.

Emotional, Practical, and Spiritual Support
I can go to them for almost anything. Many young teens do not have a role model or someone to whom they can express their feelings until they came to the program. I was one that needed counseling when I enrolled. I felt as though my life was going down hill. The HBP staff were there to listen and discuss what my issues were in life. They helped me understand that this is how life is when having another person to take care of and that everything was going to be okay. Like me, other teen parents feel much better after counseling and have much less stress.

The program provided many items for my son and me, for which I am deeply grateful. This practical support helps more than you may realize. Most of us (read Tiara's whole story ... )

HBP Thanksgiving Baskets Deliver More Than Just a Good Meal
Thanksgiving turkey You and your organization are invited to help HBP provide food items for Thanksgiving baskets to be delivered to HBP families during the third week in November.

In the past, baskets have included a turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, green beans, corn, carrots, sweet potatoes, rice, cake mix, brownie mix, carrots, butter, eggs - everything that our families need in order to make a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.

Your generosity allows HBP families to know that so many people care about them. Contact us at (202) 396-2809 or by email if you or your organization would like to donate. Thank you!
September 2012 TPEP and TPEP Remix Update
retreat-baby-3 On September 17, HBP welcomed its newest 20 confirmed participants to the Teen Parent Empowerment Program (TPEP) and 10 confirmed participants to TPEP Remix.

What's New in TPEP for 2012

This year, TPEP is implementing the Chicago Parent Program as part of its parenting skills training. This evidenced-based program is designed to meet the needs of a culturally and economically diverse audience, using video of everyday parenting challenges at home and in public along with group discussions, weekly practice sessions, and simple handouts which summarize important points. The Chicago Parent Program is particularly useful for parents with low reading skill. Participants learn through discussion and experience ... (read more ...)

Be One of our Many Hands!
Healthy Babies Project: Changing Lives, Changing People

hand-circle "Many hands make light work," said English playwright John Heywood (c.1497 - c.1580).  Healthy Babies Project believes in that approach to changing and saving lives of young, pregnant teen mothers.

It takes many hands to help save lives, change lives, and change people. But many hands coming together can make it happen.

Will you be one of our Many Hands and come together with us for a moment in time by giving a gift to continue our work?   Give here.

Your gift will help a pregnant teen have access to food, clothing, parenting education, and more.  When you become one of our Many Hands, your gift changes a life.
