MASK PARTNERS WITH ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY
TO LAUNCH "i.m. POWER" PEER-TO-PEER MENTOR PROGRAM

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids) is excited to launch a new community education partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) to pilot its "i.m. POWER" peer-to-peer mentor program in three elementary schools in Arizona. Last week, ten ASU students were trained to become "i.m. POWER" mentors. The mentors will present MASK's E3 (Engage, Educate and Empower) School Program to three area elementary schools: Students at Carminati Elementary (Tempe Elementary School District); Sunrise Elementary (Deer Valley School District); and Lakeview Elementary (Washington Elementary School District) will all benefit from the program. This peer-to-peer approach to prevention allows students to deliver the message to students, and gives the elementary student a mentor.

ASU "i.m. Power" Mentors

"MASK is pleased and honored to work with ASU students who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children, as well as these proactive schools that are invested in the overall well-being of their students," says Kimberly Cabral, MASK Founder and Publisher. "Carminati, Sunrise and Lakeview Elementary schools recognize the importance of taking time to build a child's social emotional skill set, and these schools have embraced MASK's year-long approach. Together, MASK, ASU and these three Arizona schools will engage, educate and empower thousands of students this year."

MASK's approach recommends three assembly-style workshop presentations per year (Fall, Winter, Spring). MASK school-based programs consist of three workshop topics including Relational Development, Digital Solutions, and Health and Wellness: Relational Development focuses on social skills; Digital Solution focuses on technology safety and cyberbullying; and Health and Wellness focuses on healthy lifestyle choices to prevent substance use and improve health. Each workshop topic includes at least three developmentally-appropriate presentations targeting positive skill-building for students in grades K-12, as well as easy-to-implement reinforcement activities that align with educational standards, which reinforce the learning that took place in the presentation about the specific skills to improve school climate.

MASK's E3 school-based program builds social and emotional skills in children, while helping the school create a positive climate and atmosphere in a manner that helps teachers and school administrators meet educational standards. A school-wide approach to positive social-emotional skill building creates an education environment that prepares children to be "ready to learn."

This customized year-long programming is based on contemporary trends as it relates to the challenges faced by today's youth and their families. MASK's goal is to improve school climate, build healthy children, and strengthen parent-child bonds through psychoeducational information, classroom-based activities, practical tips on helping parents understand their child's experiences, and education on current trending topics through MASK The Magazine and MASK's E3 school program.

"Our ASU students are excited to mentor Arizona youth to help them become better prepared on critical issues facing them today," says ASU's Michele Grab, Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives who is helping to manage the partnership.
