About MASK

MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids) is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization created in 2007 by a group of dedicated mothers who recognized the need to consistently educate parents and children on rapidly changing issues. MASK's mission is to educate parents and children about the issues facing our youth and to empower children to make safe, healthy choices.

About MASK Programs MASK's E3 Youth Programs aim to engage, educate and empower audiences with the knowledge, resources and tools to make safe, healthy choices. The E3 Program is a comprehensive approach to educating parents and students from kindergarten through college, and is designed to present the latest trends and information at an age-appropriate level. Through MASK's E3 programming, parents and students will be "in the know" on the latest issues and, most importantly, students will learn tactics and strategies to deal with issues and peer pressure first hand. The programs provide empowerment, support and tools to help nurture overall health.

MASK PARTNERS WITH ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY TO PILOT PEER-TO-PEER MENTOR PROGRAM

Scottsdale, AZ  -MASK (Mothers Awareness on School-age Kids) is pleased to announce a new community education partnership with Arizona State University to pilot a peer-to-peer mentor program.

MASK has re-developed and updated the E3 youth and parent programs which aim to engage, educate and empower audiences with knowledge, resources and tools to make safe, healthy choices. MASK and ASU are excited to pilot a peer-to-peer "i.m power" mentors program with ASU student mentors in the fall. Through MASK's E3 programming, parents and students will be "in the know" on the latest issues and, most importantly, students will learn tactics and strategies to deal with issues and peer pressure first hand. The programs provide empowerment, support and tools to help nurture overall health. The ASU "i.m power" student mentors will be trained this summer to present the E3 youth programs to elementary school-age children. The pilot program will launch this fall with plans to take it on a national scale.

Additionally, ASU is working directly with MASK on the development of the College Life Skills: Transitioning to College - A Parent Student Guide section of MASK The Magazine. Developmentally, 18 to 22 year olds haven't matured enough to be able to make long-term decisions. Consistent and frequent communication with parents or mentors is vital during these years. Parents of young adults who are "ready to launch" - to college, trade school, or into the work force - should be working with their child to develop independence skills to be used when they are on their own. The college level initiative in MASK The Magazine offers guidance and advice from ASU experts. The goal is to guide and assist parents and their children with the college transition.

"We're excited to partner with MASK to provide additional resources to parents about critical issues affecting families today.  We look forward to giving ASU students the opportunity to mentor Arizona youth to help prepare them for university life," says ASU's Michele Grab, Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives who is helping to manage the partnership.
