MASK EDUCATES BASHA HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS ON THE DANGERS OF DISTRACTED DRIVING

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Here is an alarming fact:
Distraction behind the wheel contributes to more than 5,000 traffic fatalities annually. A recent AAA Foundation in-car study showed that teen drivers were distracted almost a quarter of the time they were behind the wheel.

On July 30th, MASK Co-Founder and Director of Education Pam Baumann conducted a presentation to approximately 600 Basha High School seniors regarding the dangers of distracted driving.

"I primarily focused on texting while driving for this presentation," said Baumann, "but distractions are not just from the phone. Passengers, eating, and in-car technologies all create distractions."

Studies show teens who text while driving spend approximately 10% of their driving time outside of their lane, and 48% of kids age 12-17 have been in a car while the driver was texting.

"Pam had the students' attention from the very beginning," said Basha High School principal Ken James. "The students were attentive and engaged, and the majority of them stayed after the assembly to sign the No Texting While Driving pledge!"

This Basha High School educational program was generously sponsored by the T.W. Lewis Foundation. The mission of the T.W. Lewis Foundation is to impact and serve youth through education and character development, to support children and strengthen families in need, and to make our community a better place to live by supporting cultural and environmental organizations.
