MASK PRESS RELEASE

From:  Michelle Cardini (michelle@maskmatters.org)

Date: May 8, 2014

LIKE A MARRIAGE OR A FRIENDSHIP, YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR CHILD NEEDS POSITIVE ATTENTION

TO THRIVE

SCOTTSDALE, AZ - We live in a fast-paced, time deprived world and it's not always easy to take the time to connect with your child. But experts say it is time well spent. Giving kids a few minutes of your undivided attention is one of the best ways to make them feel loved and valued. The newest issue of MASK The Magazine, The Relationship Issue: Relational Awakening - The Myth of Quality Time vs. Quantity Time, examines the importance of connecting with your child and how the parent-child connection will shape your child's relationships with others.

"In relationships, without quantity, there's no quality," says Laura Markham, Ph.D., clinical psychologist and author of 'Peaceful Parent, Happy Kids: How to Stop Yelling and Start Connecting.' "You can't expect to have a good relationship with your daughter if you spend all your time at work and she spends all her time with her friends."

Readers of the Summer issue will learn about a faith-based organization called Focus on the Family,  which was established in the late 1970s. Through its daily radio broadcast, conferences, counseling, books and magazines, Focus on the Family provides advice and guidance on marriage, parenting and families.

In the magazine's S.A.T. section, Scottsdale Christian Academy students give their perspective on relationships, and weigh in on the importance of friends vs. family. You may be surprised by their answers!

The 2014 Unity Award Recipient, Lorraine Tallman, is featured in MASK's "Moms Making a Difference" section, where she reveals how a devastating loss led her to her life's work: bringing dignity to the harsh world of childhood cancer.

From five reasons why your teen would benefit from a summer job, to the potential hazards of the popular trend of body piercing, to MASK's quarterly need-to-know tips on safety, drugs, technology, and bullying, this issue of MASK The Magazine provides tools and resources on how to improve and strengthen your relationship with your children. The Summer issue will be available on May 15th at maskmatters.org and at Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe, Arizona.

The award-winning MASK The Magazine tackles important subjects including bullying, current drug and alcohol trends, self-esteem, and technology safety. All topics are formatted in easy-to-read, age appropriate sections, from kindergarten to college. Through compelling stories, expert information, and resourceful tips and suggestions, each issue highlights some of the challenges facing children and families today.

MASK The Magazine serves as a reinforcement tool and resource for MASK awareness and prevention presentations. All schools or organizations hosting MASK presentations are offered a MASK The Magazine fundraising opportunity. Each student/member is given one complimentary issue of the magazine, and for every $24 subscription received, the participating school or organization will receive $10. Register your school or organization today by contacting info@maskmatters.org or by calling 480-502-5337.
